Default Cotto vs Margarito makes business sense

The public will be curious about whether Marg was really able to beat Cotto fairly. Properly marketed and promoted, this could be a huge PPV draw, maybe 600K views.

I know Cotto is mad at Marg but you know, money talks.
Cotto can demand a 70-30 purse split in his favor. That should make up for whatever perceived injustice that was done to him.

Marg will gladly take the 30 percent split coz he has no other options right now. If he beats Cotto, it legitimizes his first win and he is back again on the big time stage.

And what does Cotto get out of this? Money! Lots of it, before his eventual retirement.

    What do you guys think?

I personally don't want a scumbag like Antonio Margarito, to get another big pay day. But what you say also does make sense its a tough one to decide upon.

Margarito should be banned for life. Cotto has been fighting and has gotten an enormous amount of miles put on him since and including the Margarito debacle. Meanwhile, Margarito has been resting since his KO lost. Cotto is nowhere near the same fighter. He knows it and many other fighters have stated this also. There is no way to legitimize Margarito's first win because if Margarito did cheat then Cotto took 11 rounds of being punched by stone hands. Pushing Cotto several steps toward shot.

Well said. I don't think Cotto should give Marga-cheato another pay-day. He simply doesn't deserve it. I think he cut short the career of an absolutly great fighter that night on July 26, 2008. Cheating in such a way could kill someone.

I would much rather see Cotto vs Castillo anyways (despite that they're both past their prime).

What sells isn't always good. Crack cocaine has a market also. Doesn't mean it should be available to all for that reason. I'm pretty sure if you made a death channel, PPV, where people get lit up and tortured on live tv the numbers would go thru the roof. As a species we have a morbid curiosity for such things...

The point being, demand isn't everything. You have to draw a line in the sand. And what Antonio Margarito and his trainer did was as bad and as blatant as it gets in the boxing world for cheating. Neither deserves to make any more money from this sport. This sport owes them nothing. They owe it everything they have ever got and showed how little respect they have for it, and their opponents. I will only be disappointed in boxing as whole if I see him back.

I don't want to see it. Margarito does not deserve another big payday from boxing. The guy is a criminal in my eyes and deserves no further reward in this line of work.

Margacheato doesn't deserve to earn another cent from this sport. Fuk him.

Previously Miguel said that he will not give a rematch or another payday to Margacheato, and thankfully he made that sentiment very clear again the other day. Good for you Miguel.

I'm part of the don't give Margarito any more money camp.

As much as I know it's wrong, I would still pay to watch it. Kind of llike watching Tyson fight a kangaroo in MSG.

On a business point of view, maybe. On an ethical point of view, this is rubbish. This guy already has too much money if you ask me and the fact that he went to see Capatillo in Mexico as he was doing some boxing business just proves how much he's not that repentant, just to make it worst.

I always think if someone is really innocent of something that large and life effecting, they will call for a lie detector test themselves.

Cotto can still fight people like Hatton, Berto, De La Hoya if he wants to come out of retirement. He has more options out there. Margarito should never be allowed in a ring again.

I like your diplomacy in the circumstances.

Andre: I totally agree, it would cut down a lot of suspicions but we can bet on it he won't.
