I dont know...I think a primed and at least trying Byrd makes him look like Tex Cobb.Thought he would do better early on with speed...up my meds
Johnson was out of his depth, he had the mayweather defence but hat was about it. All that bravado but nothing behind it.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
He turned up to survive. Completely out of his depth and shouldn't have been in the ring with Vitali. He did more talking during the fight than actual fighting
His defense was decent though. If someone could help him work on his offense and also give him more experience with some known fighters, maybe he could get better. Obviously the people who decided to throw him in with Vitali must have known he wasn't nearly ready for a fight with that level opponent yet. Only reason I could see why they did was maybe for the money. Probably a lot of people didn't even know who Kevin Johnson was before this match was arranged with Vitali.
Why would he have? He has a longer reach than Vitali and the size/weight difference between the two is largely irrelevant compared to the 100 pound/1 foot difference enjoyed by Valuev.... but obviously you want your man to get as much credit as possible for beating Johnson, who am I to judge?
Have you seen the way that Wlad fights against much smaller fighters? on occasion it has been flat out EMBARRASSING.... wouldn't try and gloat too much kid.
another boring heavyweight fight, not sure which was worse this or Haye-Valuev... one thing for certain the Heavyweight division is still down at the bottom of entertaining divisions.
How would Wlad have done vs Johnson?
I'm sorry... but as long as they keep dredging up bums bent on survival, like Johnson, the Klitschkos will always have that dreaded asterisk next to their names. Not their fault, but true nonetheless.
...it takes two to tango, Tyson had PLENTY of challengers who didn't want to be in the ring.
Wlad fights smaller fighters in pretty good fashion, I think too much is put on what he did vs Sultan, Rahman, and Chagaev but in all honesty Wlad was TRYING to get Sultan to fight him but Sultan crouched down really low and was hard to hit. He has no excuses for not throwing the kitchen sink at Rahman, I can understand being a little cautious vs Chagaev as no one knew how good his chin was or if he would retaliate more with the more punishment he took, but there came a point where even I wanted Wlad to pull that guy's card. VS Byrd he had pretty solid workrate, in the rematch he was very active.
I knew you were going to bring up Sultan Ibragimov but the main thing you are over looking about SI is the fact that he was smart and fast with decent power and to disregard him in any way would be foolish and Wlad was not going to be his fool for that Wlad gets chastised.I will say this if Sultan were to come back I see him beating everyone under the Klitschkos and maybe even Wlad in a rematch.
