All of the above plus
Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston and
Rocky Balboa vs Apollo Creed
i will have to say coralles and castillo a war indeed.
Ali vs. Frazier
Tyson vs. Holyfield
Ali vs. Foreman
in that order based on a poll of my coworkers.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Yep no doubt the Rumble in the Jungle
Fights that are know by such names have to be the most famous in history :-
other such notables
The Thrilla in Manilla - Ali v Frazier 1975
and
The Brawl at the Royal Albert Hall - Frank Bruno v John Emmen 1991
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Holmes vs Cooney
PBF vs Oscar
Louis vs Schmeling 2. Hands down. It went beyond sport more than any other fight in history. Amazingly, there were people on this planet before we were born.
To the brave belong all things.
shocked no one mentioned Tyson/Douglas, that was heard all around the world, even by non-boxing fans
my pick though, hmmm, i guess Ali/Frazier, it was called "The Fight" for something
I think I'm going to have to disagree with you on this, Mick. For a few reasons. This fight was gigantic given what it represented and will forever be thought of as one of the most polarizing events in sports history... Louis will go down as one of the best HWs of all time and Louis's destruction of Schmelling in their second fight was epic, Ali's name, mouth, actions and dominance transended Sport. Ali was a force of nature and Everybody in the world from people in Kenya to the Phillipines to the bum who asks for change at the corner store to your local pizza guy to your grandmother's best friend Agnes knew who Muhammad Ali was and had heard him speak. When Ali took on Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle it was the biggest sporting event the world had ever seen... Even eclipsing Joe and Max. The public was force fed Ali by...... Ali. Although that fight had lasting cultural shockwaves Ali Foreman gets this one, me thinks.

Depends of the perspective:
Globally historically talking: Louis vs Schelling: The Übermensch vs the üntermensch, The world vs NAzi Germany, a great fight and revenge for the overlooked black peoples.
Boxing talking: I think that the highest buzz and which did launch the biggest interest for Boxing is the Rumble in the Jungle, Ali vs Foreman. NEver a fight with so much publicity and glamour has been seen before with such staggering purse at the key.
So depending of the perspective, one of these two.

Right,
But we're talking about the most famous fight. The most highly publicized and pumped fight in history is beyond a doubt Ali/Foreman. There has been no bigger event EVER.
Just a for instance...
Take a picture of Joe standing over Max and ask 20 strangers to name both...
...Then take a picture of Ali standing over Foreman and ask them to name both.
Regardless of how old the people are, the image of Ali over Foreman has been seared into the world public's frontal lobes... I understand what Joe and Max meant and how huge an event it was... But it was absolutly not bigger then Ali/Foreman. Looked at objectively this is a fact.

Well, based on the poll I've just done of my 14 year old cousin & 3 of her friends, we have
Rumble In The Jungle (impressively all knew Ali & 3 of the 4 named Foreman)
Thrilla In Manilla (there was a short debate if this was a Jackie Chan movie from one before they settled on it being an Ali fight, although only my cousin & 1 friend named Frazier)
Floyd Mayweather against that ugly English bredda (I presume this to be Mr Richard Hatton)
David Haye against that ugly massive thing (I'm assuming Valuev not Maccarinelli)
Floyd Mayweather against Manny 'Baggy-Ho' (They're either unaware this fight hasn't happened yet or PBF has fought some kind of low budget pornstar that I'm unaware of)
Sugar Ray Leonard against Mike Tyson (This seemed a desperate attempt to humour me for another 10 seconds with the only 2 other boxers they'd ever heard of... they're now talking about which rapper they all fancy the most)
Don't say my surveys lack integrity
Ohh for the buzz, I agree and I have no arguments against it. 10 millions in purse, a Circus "Ã* la Don King", the dancers, etc, an incredible buzz, the biggest. However, historically talking, the most important fight was Schmelling vs Louis, as I said, it depends of the perspective but for the Buzz, we agree, Rumble in the Jungle can't be beaten.
