I think maybe one more fight with Munroe would of been great to go out with but maybe it's the right thing in the end he over acheived and he can always say he was a world champ, his chin was always going to get him into trouble.
Good luck in the future.
As VD would say, "he is finally Dunne."
"If there's a better chin in the world than Pryor's, it has to be on Mount Rushmore." -Pat Putnam.
It is a good, if surprising move. He achieved more than he really should have by winning that title. That was a truly amazing performance.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Bernard is definately going out at the right time. He showed true heart and grit in the Cordoba fight and deserved the World Title. I'd say he was really a European level fight though, and his chin was really the reason he was. He may have won a European title (Though not from Munroe I feel) if he'd carry on, but against the stop guys at world level, in this strong division, he would have been KO'd a few more times.
Good choice to quit now while he has a young family and hasn't taken too many beatings.
Found this quite harsh, if maybe somewhat truthful article from the Irish Independent newspaper website.
The bubble had to burst for Dunne and for Dublin - Other Sports, Sport - Independent.ie
I think he'll be back...probably in a year or two.
