Default Your Personal Emotional High's and Low's Within Boxing ......

On the the back of Valero's death, this got me thinking a little. I enjoyed watching Valero, as did most boxing fans, and as sad as his situation was, I can't honestly say that it was a personal emotional low in my boxing life, more a shock. It was obviously very bad news for everyone involved, but because Valero hadnt really left a mark on me emotionally as a fighter, I guess it's one that hasnt left a real personal emotional scar.

For every true fight fan, there have been times throughout our lives that we have been ridiculously elated with certain results, situations etc, and also times when we have felt as sick as parrot with lock-jaw. I just wondered what are everyones top 3 personal highs and lows to date ?

    - Personal High's -

    1.- Hatton's win over Tszyu

I guess this would have to rank as the highest point in my own boxing life. To see someone I'd followed, then became friends with, realise his dream in front of his home fans on that magical night in Manchester will take some beating. I dont think I have ever felt so happy, proud, relieved or ecstatic as I did on that night. We partied for days and I was high as a kite on pure emotion for days afterwards. The fact I was there to watch it live certainly added to everything.

    2. - Oscar's win over Vargas

With all the bad-blood that preceded this fight, and with Oscar being one of my all-time favourite fighters, this has to be number 2 for me. The way he dispatched of Vargas that night was clinical and extremely satisfying. Staying up until the early hours just to watch the fight on T.V, and all the emotions I felt during the fight made it all the more special at the end. I remember trying to sleep after the fight and just couldnt, I was buzzing like a bee with a vibrator up its ass.

    3. - Meeting Hatton and Duran

I guess this will have to be my 3rd choice, it's not often you get to meet two of your own personals idols in one night. This was the first time Duran had ever set foot on these shores, and it was also the first time I was introduced to Ricky. It was a fantastic night that paved the way for our future friendship. The best Boxing Dinner I have ever attended, topped off by our taxi ride back to the hotel which involved picking up Ken Buchanan. Priceless.

    - Personal Low's -

    1. Hatton getting laid cold by Manny

Easily the biggest low of my boxing life to date. I felt sick to my stomach before the fight and even worse after it. One of the most brutal KO's you could ever see, and against your favourite fighter. I walked out of the MGM Grand and walked all the way back down the strip to the Wynn in a haze. I got into my hotel room, took a valium ordered a Pizza and went to sleep. Saturday night in Vegas and I was in bed. That alone says it all. Devastated. I didnt expect Rick to win the fight, and I was half expecting the worst, but I never expected that.

    2. Oscar's loss to Manny

This was extremely hard to watch, and I think every punch Manny threw seemed to hurt me more than it did Oscar. To see your hero, past his sell by date, getting beaten up so badly, was horrific viewing. A massive low for me, and something I wish I'd never seen.

    3. Benn's loss to Watson

Benn was a huge idol of mine when I was younger, and the defeat to Watson was the first time I shed a boxing tear. I never thought Watson could hand my hero his first loss in such decisive fashion. I was gutted for days afterwards, much in the same way I was when Tyson lost to Douglas, a myth shattered, and it hurt.

I can actually think of so many more low's than high's that I could have added. I know this cant be the case, maybe you just remember the bad times more than you do the good ??

    Either way, what's everybody else's personal High's and Low's in boxing ?

Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.
