    Default El Canelo Alvarez

So that was the first time I got to see El Canelo, I thought for being 19 (any age) he looked really good. Great balance, good skills, and a big punch.

    What did you guys think?

I liked that he got hurt and didn't overly panic. It look like he was but he caught himself. Eventually cleared his head and got his legs back. That boy throws sick ass uppercut

Great prospect, with a good head on his shoulders. He throws really sharp looking punches and in combinations too, really impressive for a 19 year old. He'll only get stronger in the coming years as well!

The fact that he's only 19 is pretty incredible.

i've been a big fan of canelo for over a year now and i've got to admit, i was sh-tt-ng bricks during the second round. but thankfully, he came out of it and came away with the victory. i knew cotto was going to be a tough opponent, lightweight or not. this guy, although somewhat limited, is as tough as nails and was just the right kind of opponent in which canelo could learn from. but i caution canelo's team from bringing up this kid too fast because last night he showed he was clearly not ready for any elite opponents. besides, he's only 19 years old. give him a steady diet of "safe" opponents for his next 3 or 4 fights then we'll see how much he's improved. still, he's a megastar in the making and if his team is patient, he'll realize his vast potential in the not too distant future.

He has a long way to go, crazy he has 30+ fights at 19, no amateur background though. I realize he is only 19 and still has a long way to go, but he won't be top opposition at welterweight. I don't think he will even be able to make that weight anymore soon, but he could make some noise at 154 I bet.

He was facing Cotto's brother, not exactly top opposition though he does have a hell of a chin

First time I've seen him ..... I thought he was very impressive. Unbelievable to think he's only 19 (and with so much pro experience already.

Solid kid, lovely technique and puts his punches together really well, Class fighter and (despite not looking much like my idea of a Mexican), he showed heart and guts, plus that fantastic Mexican left hook to the body.

I think we'll see a lot more of him in future ...... did anyone think his style had a bit of Andre Berto in it?

He didn't even look that bothered after taking those shots, not really, slightly stunned, but legs were still solid, it was only the sheer power of the shots that knocked him back.

Watching the replays, he did well to avoid many more that came at him, only a couple landed flush.

I was shocked to see he has 30+ fights under his belt! This guy could do 50-0 before he is 25!

I thought he looked good, has some work to do but has all the tools. I'm excited to see more of him in the future.
