Bute v Pavlik makes sense both HBO only decent fight out there for Bute, shame Pavlik will be destroyed.
Bute would tap that ass
Hopkins ruined Kelly Pavlik, Martinez ended his career.
Bute might actually kill him.
I don't necessarily think Hopkins ruined him though, or that his career is over. He's the same fighter he always was, he's just fighting better opposition who can exploit his weaknesses. He'll always be an exciting power puncher who is limited defensively and plodding. His lifestyle outside of the ring might have contributed to his inability to overcome elite opposition though.
Pavlik's Decision Not Official, Martinez Rematch Still There - Boxing News
During the live HBO broadcast of Paul Williams-Kermit Cintron on Saturday night, HBO commentator Larry Merchant informed the live audience that Kelly Pavlik has waived his right to a rematch with WBO/WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. From what I was told, by sources close to both sides, Pavlik has NOT "officially" waived his right to rematch and still has until May 17 to make up his mind. While Pavlik might be heading in the direction of moving up to super middleweight, nothing has been put in writing and the option to exercise the rematch with Martinez is still an possibility.
Martinez's agent Sampson Lewkowicz confirmed the information to BoxingScene.com.
"I know the professional nature of [Pavlik's manager] Cameron Dunkin and [Pavlik's promoter] Top Rank and if any the decision is made by Pavlik, it will be made in writing and not through a third-party. I don't believe anything I hear until they make their decision in writing. To me what Merchant said is hearsay and in our business it doesn't work that way," Lewkowicz told BoxingScene.com.
Bute-Pavlik would make sense in the circumstances: It would give Pavlik to give a shot for a bell, saying that he lost the fight because he was partially weight drained, it would give Bute even more publicity in the US and that's the fight HBO is trying to do for a little time now. I think Bute will smack and KO him under 6 though.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
Nice guy Pavlik but the blueprints out on him and his 15 minutes is up.I just dont see Martinez needing him or the fight going any different.Def Pavlik would be a good propel fight for Bute as far as exposure.Think Bute would make a mess of him inside if distance.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Come on Pavlik, stay there for one more fight and take the rematch and go up to SMW on a high. You can beat Martinez, but you should do more homework.
agree completely
pavliks qualitys at middle the made him a world champ was power. He aint gonna get any stronger at 168 and the boys up there will just tear him limb from limb once they get the chance.
Froch, kessler, bute, dirrell, ward, abraham, pascal and possibly diaconu all take pavlik at 168
one dangerous horrible bloke
I agree with that.
Pavlik has shown nothing recently that makes me think he can deal effectively at SMW against a fair bunch of them guys. He should stay at MW and fight Martinez again, if he can improve and show something, then he can move up. Otherwise, I'm really not so sure if he has all that much to offer right now.
