Default But there is also peace.

I know it's not as fun or cool to talk about peace.

    Rankings & Results

Here's a group that rates countries on levels of peace and order. There is a lot of criteria that countries get their rating. It is absolutely not a perfect reflection, but it has only been going on for a few years so the measure is in it's infancy.

The most peaceful country in the world?

    Galaxy's own New Zealand

The most non-peaceful country in the world?

    Iraq

    Other notes
there are 149 countries that have data accounted for
a lower rank means more peaceful

    Ireland: 6th
    Canada: 8th
    Australia: 19th
    UK: 31st
    China: 80th
    USA: 85th
    Mexico: 107th
    South Africa: 121st
    Russia: 143rd
    Israel: 144th

It should also be noted that many of the countries that are worst off do not have the data to provide to get a rating and are therefore not included. Palestinian occupied territory, Niger, Suriname, Benin etc.

For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Funny the first country I thought of when I read this topic was actually New Zealand. Their motto is "when you get the urge to fight, fuck a sheep" lol

Japan is one of the safest place you can imagine, if you lost a one hundred bill, they put a notice everywhere till the person comes claim it... it says a lot, do that anywhere else and you will have a pick up line of lunatics pretending it's their.

Well that's great but I'm not sure it quite compensates for the anti peace actions of Pearl Harbour, the Rape of Nan King and of course the dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

If it was 5-10 years ago, I would say no and that you,re right. However, now it is 65 years ago, 2 generations more or less actually. If you look at the Japanese life at the moment, it is extremely peaceful. Just to tell you, did you know that there is more lawyers on the Montreal's island than in the whole Japan? Peoples over there fix stuff between themselves because they believe the conflict resolution works better with dialogue and when directly involved.

Yeah I guess you are right, after all pretty of all Europe was shot to shit back then. I like how Iceland's enviroment is more aggressive than they are.

Yes this is strictly where we are now and the last year as far as peace standards go.

Yeah man, I'm actually quite shocked we sailed in at 6th.

Speaking of Saturday night, saw something funny in the Temple Bar area over the weekend.
An aul fella' had emerged from a pub absolutely sh*tfaced at around 10.30pm, couldn't even stand. The police were trying to help him up and the poor bastard was shouting words of encouragement at himself - 'Get up John, come on John, for feck sake will ya' get up!' Hilarious stuff.
The police were in fits of laughter and a shedload of tourists had gathered in a circle around him, all grabbing pictures/videos with their phones. He finally reached the vertical position he so desperately fought for and was met with huge cheers from all the tourists in attendance. It was surreal. Around 15 meters down the road he hit the deck again...

Afterward I was thinking to myself, it's no wonder we have the drunken Irish stereotype all over the world when all those tourists go back home with pictures and videos of all that nonsense to show their families and friends.

None of that surprises me all that much. We can't really judge modern Japan on their past wrongdoings, a different time and a different mindset. It's like saying we should judge modern Germany on the Nazi's. There is no point comparing them. I really like Japan, but at the same time it is no eden either.

Props to all those countries in the peaceful top 10. That's what I like to see, some very decent countries there.

    Good thread.
Funny how Tokyo could be thought of as peaceful; to me that is my idea of a nightmare on wheels.
I suppose the rest of Japan outweighs the heart.

Then again I can walk naked down some of our local beaches and no one is there at all, all day long; And yet less than 1 hours drive and I could be getting beat up by brick welding packs of thugs just for fun.

    Strange days.
