    Hey,

I was just doing a bit of research on boxing shoes myself, and it seems that boxing shoes and wresting shoes are quite similar. According to some opinions I've read, some companies sell the exact same shoes as boxing and wrestling shoes just with different model names.

Dont take my word for it though as I have no first hand experience.. but if thats the case its nice because you can usually find wrestling shoes cheaper than boxing shoes.

Also I spoke to a rep at Rival and they said they're releasing a lot of new gear in the fall including several new shoes.. if you want to wait till then, you can probably avoid customs and duties by ordering locally in Canada.

It is common to sell and buy boxing/wrestling shoes as one type. My gym requires one or the other for wear in the ring (otherwise the beginners have to wear just socks when taking a lesson in the ring.)

In my mind there is a difference however, generally wrestling shoes should have soft soles so that accidentally kicking someone want be much worse than a barefoot kick. Ideally boxing "boots" would have more ankle support.

For (casual?) training it doesn't much matter and I wear the generic type -- this also means I can grapple easily in my boxing shoes.

Look at most pro boxers and you will see the boot type shoe however.

I bought the CHEAPEST I could find and they have worked out well. (About $30 US on Amazon.)

Consider asking the other guys in the gym so you can see the differences and choices...

Everlast of ringside sell decent shoes at a fair price...Great for the gym...If you ever pay attention in bout many fighters wear them there as well including guys like Cotto....

Higher shoes that go above the ankle don't give an extreme amount of support unless you buy the leather ones that can be tightened up quite a bit but they also cause problems for many guys with pivoting...Yiou can really only shop around and try a few different pairs til you find ones you like...But I will say buying the Jordan ones and others in that price range are more for looks then actual use when it comes to what they give.....

Adidas are a good shoe. The box hog are reasonably priced and have a track record for lasting. I have the Nike Machomai's and they have worked out well. I prefer the mids, extremely light which I like and the support has been good enough for me. I am a very mobile fighter so this factors in. Plan on getting the Adistars next. They are kinda pricey but at this stage a good shoe is important, and hopefully will get the mileage out of them.

Adidas was my first shoe. A model similar to the box hogs. Really liked them and why I'm going back to the company.

Good luck in your new gym and move wesrman! Talk soon buddy.

Opinions on Rival shoes? My trainer says he can get me shoes at wholesale prices and i want cheap, but durable. He claims he can get me $90 shoes for $60 so i want to jump all over that. Also should i get low or hi tops?

Im leaning towards Addidas i think but thats just based on looks. Box hogs or the super low.

if you're not sure, get mids. Still lots of support, without the rigidity of the high tops.

seen below: shop around, you can probs find a better price then this.

RSX-LTD - Shoes - Rival Boxing Gear Inc.

My trainer can get me these for like $60 shipping and everything. Thoughts?

I have the same Rival shoes and love them and I paid 89.99 before tax so 60 bucks is a great deal.
