Default What's up with Daniel Santos

I think during his prime he was somewhat underrated. Solid skills and physicality all around and will be remembered to be the guy who beat Margarito twice but what happened after that

Daniel Santos is just another case of the famous scenario, a very talented fighter who isn't dedicated or disciplined enough to take it to the next level, he was a very good amateur and as i've said before he's the one who damaged David Reid's eye, causing the droopy eye, at 147 he looked like he had promise, then began to slack off, it was already evident in the Campas fight, he looked to finally be motivated again when he came back to KO Alcine, but then looked like crap against Foreman and the way he blew up in weight the night of the fight only indicates that he didn't really train that hard to begin with, in short, Santos could have been somebody, but he has no one to blame but himself for not living up to his potential

i always felt that daniel santos was a very solid champion a few years ago. too bad he was relatively inactive for many years because he was fun to watch, and i really admired his skills.

He got outboxed by Foreman and couldnt rough him up or impose his will at all. Maybe he had a shitty training camp but he has fallen off alot.

i think it's a combination of a lot of things, the fact that he blew up so drastically in weight overnight shows his lack of dedication, so does the inactivity, and honestly i think he just blew his last run it's gonna all go downhill from now on

He needs to stay busy and get back before it is too late, I still think he can win the title again, he could get a fight with Cotto, which would be interesting.

That would be a big fight in Puerto Rico but I could see Cotto's trainer (Steward) steering Cotto away from that fight. Cotto's a big JWW now fighting @ 154. Santos looks like a big JMW. Cotto could have a rough time if Santos decided to train hard for that fight.

Which is why I've never been a Daniel Santos fan. Sure... when he's won his big fights I've been happy for him. But I prefer the warrior, "win-at-all costs", "leave-it-all-out-on-the-ring" type of attitude. Yeah, he's a great natural talent... but it's mostly gone to waste. And he's blamed his lack of a good promoter and other stuff like that... but in the end it all comes back to him, like you just said.
