    Default starting out

    HI,
I'm 24 years old and fit and healthy. I have played football from the age of 7 to 16 and two years of other sport. I first started lifting weights when i was about 14 and have done so on and off up until a year ago. 3 years ago i was unemployed and decided that i would go back to the gym and start training again, i did cardio and a weight routine for about 10 months then joined a boxing gym while still doing my own training at home and at a public gym. i trained at this boxing gym, did all the basics and was sparring after two weeks. i really felt that i was fit and mentally i really wanted to get some amateur bouts but as i kept training with him he kept saying i was gonna get bouts but never did, after about 4 months he moved and closed his gym. then i went to another gym not too far away and it was basically the same story for another 4 odd months. I'm still keen as ever to get into boxing but have been let down by less than enthusiastic trainers, I'm now 24 and wondering if it is too late to start up again. If anyone could provide me with an oversight or something constructive in regards to what i have wrote, then please do

    Hey Sweet Science

You are only 24. In the UK, you can box up until the age of 35, and I guess my little Aussie friend that it's the same age there (the age is probably an international standard). If you want to find a gym, call 'Boxing Australia' (Boxing Australia) and see what affiliated clubs are near you. If you want to box actively, then you need a gym. When you join a gym, especially a busy one, don't be surprised if the coaches ignore you for a while. This is a way of testing your commitment (as well as them being busy with active fighters). In the olden days you'd have been thrown in the ring and had the s**t beaten out of you and if you'd have come back, then commitment would have been proven. Now, we live in different times and coaches need other ways of testing this. Don't take it personal.

In the meantime, there are some sites out there that may help with technique just to keep you busy (http://www.myboxingcoach.com).

Keep in touch and let me know how you go cobber!

    Fran

that's the best reply I've heard, and i really like the way you think. i am always searching websites and stuff always reading different things in relation to training and boxing, i like to think that i am armed with some good knowledge in most if not all aspects - cardio, weights, diet (the short version - so many variables) but am still searching for a means to properly put this into action were it counts. i will keep in touch and hopefully progress will pick up when it has no other choice. thanks for the link, catch ya soon.

I'm also at " Aussie boxing.latest-info.com" forums under the same name and there is a bit more info on this same topic.
