Does anyone know anything about this?
It just would strike me as odd that Showtime would just say naah. There had to be something going on you would think.
Did he sign a deal with HBO before or after this started?

I didn't realize he had now signed a deal with Showtime. That's good at least as theoretically that opens the door for future fights with Super Six guys.
I think he had already signed to fight Andrade 2, shame really but hopefully he fights the winner.
I think it had more to do with HBO wanting him to fight Pavlik later that year. They were pushing hard for the fight until Kelly fell apart personally and then professionally. Bute would have made some good bank for the fight.
I also don't think Interbox (his promoter) was crazy about tying him up for 2+ years fighting outside of Canada.
I'm guessing they made the mistake of showing him the proposed lineup of the other five.
I have to admit I'm a bit of a Bute hater and was just trolling to get an argument started and knew Bilbo wouldn't let me down.
Maybe he wanted in and just wasn't able to. I have no idea. But the whole thing has worked out pretty well for him. He's still thought of very highly by a lot of people even though he's 27 fights in without an elite-ish win. And there really aren't many options out there for him until it ends so he can take fights like Magee and Brinkley and avoid the usual criticism because after all its true, who else is out there for him to fight?
Yes HBO had rights to Bute at the time because he had inked for Andrade 2 to clear his name from the first fight's controversy. As I've said before it was a smart move on his part let the other contenders from the division destroy each other and then conquer what's left.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
The lack of decent opposition may well come back to bite him though. With no real challenges he's not growing as a fighter.
Guys like Froch and Ward are having to learn and improve to conquer ever increasing opposition. Bute may find himself too green when he eventually meets up with them.
I mean he gave about three rounds away to Jesse Brinkley before his extra size and strength wore him down.
I think he's a decent fighter. But I don't think he's the best in the division. He has to be relegated to number 3 right now.
Champ: Vacant
1. Ward
2. Froch
3. Bute
That's how I have the supermiddleweight division right now.
I mean come on he just fought Jesse Brinkley give the guy a break...
Bute can fight Steiglitz or Sartison... also Balzsay
Coming up in the rankings Edwin Rodriguez and Peter Quillin should be gettin a title shot in 2011.
would love to see a lucian bute/carl froch showdown. i'm a big fan of both but i think carl froch takes this one by close decision. his masterpiece over abraham was something and i think he's def on a roll now.
