Telling the result, putting loads of exclamation marks in a title or saying WOW (sorry Pavlik, you're ordinarily a cool dude) just gives away the results for those who havnt seen the fights.

What's wrong with just writing the two fighters names and then putting spoiler, so for example 'Lopez Salida spoilers'. No need for exlamation marks, capital letters or hyperbole and certainly no need to announce the result.

The next day, even a few hours fine. But its thoughtless in the extreme to do it straight after a fight.

if you are smart, just stay of all boxing sites and forums when there has been a fight and you are avoiding the results . But for some of the people out there , i agree with o.p

When there is just a single fight card on it's not so bad and I agree with what you say. But tonight the Americans had to watch Khan on tape delay and both Showtime and HBO cards clashed so it's common sense that most people aren't all going to watch the fights at the same time.

I know it's easy to get excited immediately after a big fight, especially an upset, but it's not too hard to contain yourself for just the title and then go off in like an excited crazy person in the actual thread.

It happens to alot of people , i did it last week so i cant blame anyone. People are just people. but im sure it would benefit everyone if there was a spoiler thread visible to everyone

I avoid all message boards if I'm trying to avoid the result of a fight: I saw a result I was avoiding on the Arsenal board!

have said it before I don't agree with all this spoiler shit

when i want to avoid a fight result I stay off internet altogether - never mind a fucking boxing site !

don't even read my texts in case i have been messaged with a comment regarding the result.

its what you have to do in these days of information overload I'm afraid. Fact

I think its a fair enough point and doesn't hurt to effort a bit of common courtesy...although you cant slip into some overely sensitive politically correct state. Can avoid the site but often times with air times uncertain, tape delays and streams here only way to view its a catch 22...you take your chances skimming the surface....still interacting leading up to fight only to find out its halfway over. Locally HBO and Showtime can be spotty as hell about whats live, same day tape or duel international telecast. At times you dont know until it begins. Not like we're talking days here just a few hours.

I'd normally avoid the site, but i log in to find a download link. So in that sense, it's a bit annoying if the first thing you see is 'OMFG Lopez got KTFO!!!1!!!'

Well some people like me don't stay up and watch fights, and like to download the fights the next day. Me personally i don't care about spoilers, as im too excited i always check the results.

But i can understand what Bilbo is saying, and i totally agree.

    its very very sad

as is when people call people trolls

and so is when two posters get into a heated debate and then someone posts a pic of a geek sat a pc with a 'computer hardman' caption

    very sad

I'm a little confused about this whole "spoiler" thing, once a fight is being shown live (whether or not you are able to see it) it's fair game and usually being watched around the world. Therefore, you should be able to post whatever you want about it, if someone is unable see the fight and/or doesn't want to know the results, then either don't read posts/threads about the fight, or stay off the forum? "Spoilers" seem to be divisive, and a source of dissension for the members here, that's my 2 cents.

Years ago, 1980-something, Curry was fighting Gianfranco Rossi. We had plans, about ten of us, to meet and watch the fight, which was in Italy that evening. On the way home from work, on a sports call-in radio show, they gave the result. Now, everybody expected Curry to win, but not everybody knew the rounds, or the number of knockdowns. Made $200 that night, then gave it back buying drinks at the bar after the fight.
What I'm saying, got to roll with the punches.

The thing is that there could be many reasons why someone missed a fight. And if they do, they generally logged in to find a download link. But guess what with a title like "Lopez knocked out in 7th," or "Victor Ortiz is Amazing," blazed across the boards it's going to be hard to miss, when one is scrolling down towards the download section.

It's called common courtesy. It might be fair game, but you're going to piss off people.

Also take in considerration...theres that word again....that many thread are in motion with predictions leading right up to the fight. We had along run where no threads were stickied so it was pot-luck. Internationally its a scramble. Nothing is lost by editing a thread title with a tag indicating the fight has began. Its not always clear at all with these networks...sort of looking out for your forum brotheren ha.

You spend months looking forward to a match, if its some outside news source, radio etc that really can't be helped. No one is told not to discuss or left out. Just courtesy as time zones are off. Like a do not disturb sign hung on the door.
