    Default Slipping while jabbing

I am spending alot of time working on throwing the jab while slipping (mostly to my right as an orthodox). My coach sme working one way, but I have heard other coaches suggest different methods. He has me slipping with a bend of the waist and right knee at the same time my jab is extended. So as the shot is traveling forward, my head is moving outisde and down at the same time.

I have heard other coaches say to break it down in two seperate movements. To either jab and slip outide as the shot returns, or to slip and then fire the shot from an angle.

Should it be broke down into two seperate movements, or is it one? Which is the more standard or fundemental way of using this skill?

I think it depends how you stay... If you stay on your back leg than it will come automatically to jab and slip at the same time.
If you are on your front leg already than you must slip first because you canĀ“t move and your jab will be much more shorter than the oponents.Second variationm is to jab while you are leeping forward. Than yes you must slip fast after that because you are going to land on a really bad place. One for shure this are not movements for beginers! If you box from the front leg i want to point out something for you. Watch some Tyson fights for when he is jabing to set the right hand. How he is shifting his weight on his right leg and slipping at the same time to the outside. And the most important how he gets in same possition as lets say Joe Louis for example when he is jabbing.

The jab is such a versatile punch, you can use it to set up other punches, draw opponents in to counters, create distance, close distance etc

Neither technique is wrong and both are commonly used, however I would say it is more common to slip and then jab because it is a series of fundamental movements where as the slip and jab at the same time is a compound of two more basic boxing techniques.

Personally I prefer to slip and fire the jab at the same time for a number of reasons.. the main one being that it is a singular shift of your weight and a one part movement and therefore quite often quicker.
Either can be useful though, it all depends on what situation you are in at the time!
