    Default Joe Frazier's Funeral

I went to Joe Frazier's funeral yesterday. It was held at
Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church
at 2800 West Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19150
.

The choir had approx. 150 people and 1,000's attended. I sat in back of George Chuvalo and in front of Juan LaPorte. Also seating near me were Iran Barkley, Michael Spinks, Larry Hazzard, Rocky Lockridge, Leon Spinks, Gerry Cooney, just to name a few.

Ali, Hopkins, Holmes and King were some of the others that attended.

It was amazing, it was like a show, and it went on for 2 hours. Jesse Jackson spoke, as did several other Pastors. They had the place rocking. They also had several singers, who were as good as they get.

    It was!

The place was so big, it was like being at a large Broadway stage show, BUT much bigger. Today I will be going to New York for a Ring 8 metting where my good friend Harold Lederman will be the guest speaker.

I had the honer of announcing the 1st Class of the Newly formed New York State Boxing Hall of Fame at Gallagher's in New York, and Lederman was one of the names along with Sugar Ray Robinson, Mike Tyson, Jake LaMotta, Carmen Basilio, Emile Griffith, Vito Antuofermo, Riddick Bowe, Carlos Ortiz, Mike McCallum, Gene Tunney, Benny Leonard, Tony Canzoneri, Harold Lederman, Steve Acunto, Jimmy Glenn, Gil Clancy, Ray Arcel, Nat Fleischer, Bill Gallo and Arthur Mercante Sr will all be immortalised.

Good post Henry, thanks for sharing! I saw the pictures, it looks like Smokin' Joe went out in style with his family, friends, and admirers all present, it was nice to see.

Ali looked so old, sick and frail, in view of the rift between him and Frazier, it must have taken a lot of courage and energy for him attend the funeral. I kind of look at it like this was Ali's ultimate apology to Joe, for the grief he caused him. I believe it's time for Ali to be forgiven for the indiscretions and/or bad decisions made during his youth, it's safe to say that he's already paid the price.

R.I.P. Joe Frazier, you will not be forgotten.
