    Default Pinklon Thomas

Any of you seasoned boxing nerds remember this guy ?

Never really watched his fights, but I always admired the guy for making the most out of that sissy first name of his and owning it, wearing the pink trunks and what not.

Then I stumbled across his brawl with James "Quick" Tillis from 1982, and Thomas was a very formidable fighter. Good jab, fast hands, and a good right hand.

Any more Thomas fights I should watch ?

This is just more proof of your gayness Hulk.

J/K dude, Pinky used to be a favorite of mine, He won the WBC Heavyweight title from Tim Witherspoon in 1984, and defended it once against Mike Weaver in 1985 before losing it by decision to Trevor Berbick in 1986.
He got totally destroyed in a WBA, WBC HW title fight, by Mike Tyson in 1987. You may not want to watch the Tyson fight but i'd recommend watching his fight with Mike Weaver if you can find it.

    Cheers

I took everything Tyson had in the power department but watch it for the inbetween rounds bits with Dundee screaming!
Pinklon Thomas might still be a teacher at a college/school

He had one of the best left jabs in Heavyweight history, but his style at times seemed lazy. Plus he had alot of problems outside the ring, but he did have a pretty good chin. Mike Tyson had to literally punch him to the ground to keep him there.

As for the fights you should watch, well the first one that springs to mind. Is obviously when he outboxed Tim Witherspoon, his fight with Mike Weaver had good action and a good KO aswell. Also check out his fight with Gerrie Coeztee its an interesting fight and a close debatable fight on the scorecards aswell.

Kind of a Jersey Joe Walcott style of fighter isn't he? Just the way he moved around the ring reminds me of JJW.

I remember Pinklon Thomas well, when he won the title I thought he would be around for a while, big strong guy with some speed and a very good jab, I thought he would be very good for a long time but (alas) I was wrong.

Larry Holmes was the man, he was far better than all of them put together.?

Pinklon was one of those talented 80’s heavyweights who was high on consumer drugs. He was supposed to be the new Ali with his excellent jab and good foot work but he did not live up to his potential like the other heavyweights at that time who had the skills but not the discipline, which is why Holmes and Tyson were fighters that came out on top during that decade. Thomas gave Holyfield a good fight as well.

Wasnt Pinklon a converted southpaw ?
He had a crushing jab but not much of a right hand , he was spoiled by drugs .

To be honest, I totally had forgotten who he was. Thanks a lot for remembering me as he looks quite entertaining with a bit of interesting history.

Did not realise that he was a converted southpaw.
