I missed this thread. Lennon was a splendid songwriter and it's a shame we were robbed of seeing what might have been. It would have been a fascinating journey.
The Beatles was always easier in that you could have your 5 songs along with Paul's and a couple of Georges. For me it is the personal quality of the album and the fact that he was doing it all on his own, which made it something of a testament. I think the same about All Things Must Pass too. It's something that took McCartney until Band on the Run to do and that is make a really great solo album.
I love the Plastic Ono Band, the lyric writing is so raw and cuts like a knife. You really feel a lot of that music.
