Thanks. Safe to say that one has never come from Northern Ireland?
They could come from Northern Ireland but it is unlikely because the most popular parties in Northern Ireland are not well represented in Westminster. We have had a few Scottish PM's and David Lloyd George a Welsh one.

As an Englishman I totally agree with and understand their inferiority complex.:-P
I doubt if anyone would confuse me with being from California, but since i'm from Texas, which is part of the Southern U.S. I might take exception at being called a "Yankee" (someone from the North or North-East U.S.
I can understand the Northern Irish taking exception to being called English/British, but I never realized someone from Wales or Scotland would.

    cheers
Yes Mars, I'm Welsh but when we go to War we are all British, and we fight and stick together, then after we call each other names.
That's funny, it reminds me of all the ethnic groups we have in America, Italians, French in Louisiana, Native Americans, Blacks, Latinos/Hispanics, Jews, Irish, English, German, et, al, for the most part we all get along, but when push comes to shove, blood is sometimes thicker than water.
I've noticed that when people of different ethnicities work and/or do business together, prejudice seems to fall by the wayside for the common good.

For some reason I thought you might be Irish, Dia. (no offense)

No Dia is Welsh. You can tell by the Welsh Flag above his posts with a Dragon on it. All Welsh people have a pet dragon for melting the cheese, when making cheese on toast, because they are a bit eccentric.

    Dia,

I'm sure you, like most on here, are not aware but the use of the words redneck and hillbilly is no different than nigger, chinc or spic.

Chink has a k in it and usually is followed by a Y as in chinky. Also surely Hillbilly is not a race or redneck?

Sorry my spelling of pejoratives is off. Of course redneck and hillbilly are racial slurs. People use them as pejoratives for ignorant white people. Hillbilly was derived from a term for German immigrants in the Appalachians of Kentuckys. If Lyle was black no one on this site would EVER refer to him as a nigger but somehow redneck is an exceptable racist term thrown around all the time.

If it offends Lyle then maybe we should stop using it. Hillbilly seems to be more likely to be Scottish in origin. A lot of people call Welsh sheep shaggers and most laugh it off, in fact whenever my local soccer side play a Welsh team, the away end will be full of supporters with inflatable sheep.

I can't speak for Lyle but it offends me. The mountains of KY had a large German immigant influx at one point. Wilhelm became William then Bill hence Hill Billy.
