I'm not sure what your point is here @Ghost. Redneck, hillbilly, white trash are terms that have probably been used at times by all classes of "white" people here in the States, some more then others.
F.W.I.W. - I've heard blacks calling other blacks "nigger" fairly often, it's not persay racist, it's just the way they talk among themselves sometimes. Example: An older black man in his late 70's was telling me a story the other day about how his wife of 30 years ran off with a "nigger" (and all his money). He got pretty worked up about it and I think he forgot for a minute that I was white, and apologized. I told him no apology needed, I understood where he was coming from.
So generally speaking i'd say that it's only "racist" if a white person is saying it. I mean think about it, how can it be "racist" if a black is saying it about another black?
I hope this helps.
I agree ! As Scot I find itfunny we can battle together through wars but then go back to disliking each other. I can easily clasee mysef as British as together we have some great history. We all have individual history that makes each countey special so rightfully we are all proud of our individual indentities.
Scots are known as Jocks to some, when I worked in London the lads at work gave me the name Jockney as joke beacause they liked me and aceppted me as an honourary Cockney !
What I have found, on my travels up and down this Country, working class people are very much the same, same type of values out look. It's about the person not about were you a from.
One of my best friends is Scottish. I believe it is all the same, but he dislikes England. I don't mind. I think we are all together, but if others see it differently then that is just perspective.
I have the opposite I have a work colleague who is English and despises all things Scottish including Andy Murray. She will never forgive him for saying that he wants anyone to win except England. She wants the Scots to be independent so that they can take their MP’s out of parliament and wants them to pay for student tuition and car park fees which are things that they allow their population at our expense.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Interesting debate on what constitutes a prejudiced word....hillbilly and redneck can clearly touch a nerve. Not sure if you've followed the news in Britain, but the use of the word 'Pleb' by one of the government ministers while ranting at a cop has flared another interesting debate. Personally, I detest the posh boys as much as they seem to detest folk like me, but if it comes to a fight there's more of us than them.
However, back to the original question. I am Welsh, loud, proud and have occasionally been known to wield an inflatable sheep. I wouldn't be offended if someone said I was English or British, my accent is fairly neutral so it could be a fairly easy mistake to make. I don't feel British, but I get on with English people as well as I do with the Irish or the Scots.
Apart from during the six nations. For around 2 hours when Wales play England, I despise each and every one of the English and their dull brand of rugby.
