Whens this dude going to fight someone with a pulse? FFS they are even waiting Cotto out until next May.

Lopez put on a brilliant effort, he was way out of his ideal weight. Saul was brutal and I think he could beat Cotto next year.

Certainly possible at this stage of their careers. Again, hard to tell given the low level of Canelo's competition (which was not his fault this time -- remember that Lopez got made only after 3 better opponents fell through), but from what we've seen recently, Canelo at least has the potential to be that good. His combinations and body punching on Saturday were beautiful to watch and he looked very strong for 154.
I still think he is the most likely next opponent for Floyd though, and that's a fight Canelo cannot win.
Lopez was coming off the back of knocking out a guy deemed worthy of fighting Floyd Mayweather. You can't knock him for not having a pulse either, he was a warrior in there. Beaten by the better guy.
Alvarez has yet to fight someone who can match him on speed and power though, that will be interesting.
Let's be clear here. The reason to excuse Alvarez for fighting an outclassed jr. welterweight is that he tried to line up 3 fights with more challenging fighters first -- not because Lopez got a fluke stoppage against Ortiz after losing most of the rounds of that fight. Lopez gets credit for being tough and not quitting against Ortiz despite clearly losing the fight, but broken jaws are "lucky" injuries -- if Ortiz hadn't had his mouth open when that punch landed, he would have won the fight easily on the cards.
That is why the result against Alvarez was exactly as I expected and why I said this fight was a joke the minute they announced it. Don't put too much on the Ortiz stoppage. Lopez loses to Ortiz in a rematch. He should go all the way back down to 140 -- he will have good success there.
Lopez didn't have a shot. This was a patchwork Frankenstein match up made to fill a date off of it's high visibility in house promotion. It shouldn't have passed off as a ppv let alone a headliner. Lopez deserved a big shot after upsetting the 'house' plans but a legit one.
Maidana and Soto Karass deserved the 100k bonus and that was a fantastic battle. Teo Santa Cruz moving up to 122 will see fireworks, very fun style and props to Ponce de Leon who has done nothing but earn it all the hard knocks way.
Yes cannot understand why this was a PPV event, if GBP wanted to hurt the Sergio card he should have made this free.

Did not realise it was not PPV, read somewhere it got 1 million viewers, I thought that was a lot.
