I don't think anybody thinks of Canada as nice, just irrelevant. A country that has little influence or power anywhere. A country that is even now ruled by a hideous old bitch from England. You guys seem nice enough, but you don't matter too much politically.

    no, you are.

The below message is re quoted for both awesomeness, new page and Miles' irrelevance.

Caricatures of some snappy-headed, tuque wearing, fart loving do-gooders that proudly can't wait to come in and try to clean up the messes of the world. I'd like to say we lead in this area, but the truth is we don't actually ever lead in anything. We just follow extremely well. So well, that we have built-in instant hindsight, thus the ability to make apologies for things in real time as they are unfolding; for not only our shortcomings and wrongs, but hell, even yours.

And for that, we are sorry.

Also, if you take a good look at our homegrown human rights record we kind of suck. In particular with the treatment of our native indian population.

Not really, I stand by my original post. It was decent and sound. I saw no attempt to counter it. You want to add Canada to the mix, but you have posted very few arguments.

miles, you're a habitual shit stirrer when it comes to discussing the United States. If the US does something good what do we see and hear from you? Either nothing or "they should have done that sooner" or "they're only doing that because _____".....just give it up, we get it you hate the United States and everyone that lives here is evil and would murder just as soon as look at you....enough already. we get it that you have a passport and have chosen to live in South Korea and you hate England and being English and how you'd really love to be some truly oppressed person but you're not and you're resentful because you're not and so you hate the US & England for the simple fact that they DON'T oppress you, you see their indifference towards you as some sort of slight and that's why you're a nutjob.

Go have some beers and chill the hell out, PLEASE

Miles, honestly, sometimes you are about as humorous as brain cancer.

Also, straw man. You basically are agreeing with my post, but suggesting you aren't.

I see no hypocrisy in that argument. I am smart and will manipulate language, life is hypocrisy.

No, Lyle. I'm a pretty conservative bloke. Maybe more than you and all others. I'm very different and will let you go on.

Only joking, miles, how are you conservative? I know you're "different" and that's putting it lightly

I am conservative in a number of ways. Many of my values and principles at heart are conservative ones. I like paying relatively low taxes and believe that I should plan for my own retirement. I am not the responsibility of anyone else and neither should others. I believe in freedom of speech and being able to do what you want. I also believe in marriage and think every decent person should get married and stick with it. I'm not all that revolutionary myself, but if there are things that can improve the world (and there are many) then I am all for them and that is where I advocate elements of socialism.

nobody sahould take any of these geopolıtıcal arguments so personally. Of course you can form the vıew that sınce YOUR country ıs beıng lambasted that therefore thıs ıs a personal ınsult towards you. But that ıs a bıt of a stretch. How else can a country's polıcıes over a century or 2 be crıtıcızed? It ıs not possıble to name every sıngle evıl-doıng ındıvıdual ın those 200 years ıs ıt? No the lıst woulod be enormous. Therefore ıts much more convenıent to just say as Mıles has saıd "the queen ıs a cunt" etc. I thınk the general poınt ıs clear and people should try to see what Mıles and I have poınted out here. Basıcally---btw NOBODY sdaıd that therefore there are no other countrıes ın the world guılty of hypocrısy---but that was not the OP. The OP was not "USA and UK are the ONLY countrıes on earth guılty of hypocrısy".

The poınt ıs---the US AND UK love to champıon themselves as beacons of human rıghts and freedom. But they couldnt be anythıng farther from the truth. Atleast Myamnar or Yemen arent goıng around claımıng to be God's gıft to homo sapıens every day. Today Romney saıd Ahmedınejad "should be convıcted of genocıde". WTF? and Amerıcans and Brıtısh people just go rıght along wıth thıs crap. Yet when poıınted out that ın fact BLAIR AND BUSH FOR EXAMPLE---AND RUMSFELD--ETC.... have murdered many hundrerds of 1000s more, they scoff and pooh-pooh and offer some shıtty jıngoıstıc arguments for why thıs ısnt so. It ıs ın fact OBAMA WITH HIS 441 DRONE STRIKES SINCE TAKING OFFICE who should be convıcted of genocıde. Those 441 strıkes have kılled approxımately 156 INNOCENT WOMEN AND CHILDREN. What the fuck do you call that? NOBEL PEACE PRIZE?

I chose Iran and Iran because the UK and US in particular are going after it with sanctions. Now forgive me if I am wrong, but Israel is the only nation in the region that invades others regularly, has the bomb, and illegally steals land. Now why are we not going after Israel? It is because, like Brockton says, we are a hypocritical bunch of gits. It is glaring, it is obvious and it is outrageous and yet we are all expected to go along with it and not batter an eyelid.

See in some respects we are much worse than somewhere like Iran. We do full on ignore the UN and murder tens of thousands of people. Seemingly the Queen as head of state agreed to the bloodshed too. Did most of us agree with the war? No. Did a million protest? Yes. Did the power brokers listen? No. Iran is nothing compared to us and what we do to others. As a regime they are deplorable, but in many respects so are we and you can compare these things.

You say I am in the minority concerning the monarchy, but is that surprising considering that the press is sycophantic in its coverage of the Royals? A free and open debate on the subject has only ever really been avoided or marginalised. The only reason the monarchy toned down its powers was because it was out otherwise. We should have done what the French did because on a moral level inherited power and status is an abhorrent concept.

It is what the North Koreans of this world are into and would we say that is any good? Just because the British Royal family presents itself with a cuddly image doesn't mean we should be fooled. If they should have private education then we all should. If they have butlers then we all should. Otherwise, they are just abusing their positions of inherited status. If you represent the people then you should be one of the people.

It doesn't matter how much she or I works. I worked my way for everything I have, I had no silver spoons and I will need to always work just to make sure I don't need to jump off a cliff when poverty eats away my earnings. She doesn't need to make that struggle, a struggle most of us have to make and more and more so these days. A monarchy makes a mockery of the grit that people have to go through, the sacrifices that have to be made. Prince William and Prince Harry for instance, these gits wouldn't know the meaning of a part time vegetable store job or a paper round, of living in a tough estate, of anything that the rest of us have known and been through. There is no moral justification for them having it easier than we do and on the basis of birth alone.

I hate the Royal family and there is nothing despotic in thinking so. They are against everything I stand for. Every nation of forward thinkers eradicates their Royal family.
Miles, you are awesome. So true and spot on with people calling you irrational because your views do not fit their world view. I would argue that they're truly the ones incapable of rational thinking. We are fooled into thinking we have a "democracy" and "freedom" which is the worst part.

At least the other countries most of our population has such disdain for don't make any qualms about their position. In a country where 90p out of every £1 you earn goes to tax it's laughable that so many can smugly find fault in the practices of some of the infamous, so-called, 3rd world countries. I guess it makes us feel better.

Wars that we jump into to "liberate" the people and save their "human rights"? Yet if we were such benevolent souls, wouldn't we save millions more people by providing simple food and water to people that are starving in the world? Would be a heck of a lot cheaper than war, no? Less deaths too? Ah but I guess that's not as profitable as war.

Oh, but when another country wants to save their people from certain genocide (the Cyprus problem), it is branded an "illegal invasion"? Get the fuck outta here..It offends me every time I see my family's home, North Cyprus, not recognised as a country basically telling me that my mother should not exist right now and that Turkey should have let her be killed as part of the "ethnic cleansing" that was going on in Cyprus at the time. That was apparently perfectly "legal".

There really isn't enough space to list the U.K and U.S. hypocrisy and I commend those of you who have managed to put aside their allegiances to swallow the bitter but quite obvious truth.
