Just like in those drills I mentioned the other day.
The shoulder whirl he refers to begins on the feet and works up through the hips; the hips whirl the shoulders. He is talking about the same thing.
When you throw your straight left hand, your hips and shoulders will turn. What Dempsey is talking about is an aggressive way of getting your weight moving forward...Start by mastering the mechanics of throwing a straight left hand, then use those drills to coordinate your hands and feet. About that time you'll figure what he is talking about.
Manny Paciauo, however it is spelled, uses that step very frequently to throw his straight left hand, and Bernard Hopkins used to use it to steal that lead right hand he threw.
I get it thanks to your superb instructions on the lead rear cross question and this one thanks a million friend I really owe you!

So basically the momentum from the drop step forwards carries on into the lead rear cross in one fluid motion, its not drop step in, stop, then throw, its one fluid motion so you get both power generation methods adding to one another to produce a horrific amount of force in the rear cross.

I can feel what he meant by pure linear force/follow through, practically separated my hand from my wrist joint!
