    Default Wilfredo Gomez Critical condition

Former Puerto Rican world champion boxer Wilfredo Gomez is in critical condition in a hospital following respiratory failure, a family spokesman said Wednesday.Erick Rodriguez told The Associated Press that the 56-year-old Gomez, widely considered to be the best Puerto Rican fighter in history, is struggling to recover from a lung infection.
"The next 72 hours are going to be crucial," Rodriguez said. "He's in danger of contracting pneumonia."

Wilfredo Gomez was one of the greatest Puerto Rican Boxers of all time winning 44 times with 42 by knockout, they didn't call him 'Bazooka' for nothing. He was even money going into the fight with Salvador Sanchez moving up to Featherweight in 1981. Sanchez skills are legendary in boxing and it required a man of such skill to stop Wilfredo Gomez. It took another great legend in Azumah Nelson to stop him in 11 rounds while leading on the scorecards in 1984.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=KQRlmMPBVSc#

I hope Gomez pulls through, 56 is young, he should have a lot of good years ahead of him.

he's an old 56 though, he has a long history with cocaine abuse and the punishment he took in the ring accumulated, hopefully he'll pull through, met him a few years back and as nice and genuine as they come, IMO the greatest fighter to come from PR and p4p one of the hardest punchers ever

One of the best KO ratios in history. BTW, I hope this thread remains on the up-and-up.
I'd hate to see another disrespectful display like on the other Gomez thread, from the forum's resident asshole.

Anyway, it appears Wilfredo is doing better.
Best wishes to the champ for a complete recovery.

En su hogar Wilfredo Gómez - El Nuevo Día

It's in Spanish, but it's the only article I found today updating Wilfredo's condition. The jist of it is that Wilfredo was released from the hospital today, and is back home recuperating with family and friends. Wonderful news.
