Default Watching matches to learn new tips?

Since I am an amateur would it be better to watch the top olympians fight in order to get tips on how to fight under amateur rules. Or is it better to watch the pros?

This is used frequently to show Armatures how Armature fighting should be accomplished.

If you are relatively new to boxing, you may learn a lot from watching raw novices box.

You can learn from all levels but the most important thing is how you watch:

Why did boxer A get hit by a particular counter? Did he telegraph? Did he not make an attempt to defend after throwing? Did he throw from too far away? Was he leaning forward and off balance? etc etc etc.

Why did boxer A land a particular punch? Did he feint first? Did he mix up his attack (head / body, angle of punch)? Was the punch set up by previous actions? etc etc etc.

Look at different scenarios with purpose i.e. trying to understand exactly what has taken place and why certain movements were effective or ineffective. Look for similar scenarios with other boxers and compare the outcome.

    Hope this helps.

The only thing good about watching raw novices is looking how to defend against a raw novice.. My first fight i got a shock at how wild the guy was hardly threw a jab jusy wild hooks. Dont copy these types in my opinion.

Lol ... I wasn't suggesting that he copies anyone, certainly not a raw novice.

You can definitely get some stuff from pro fights, but yes, generally better watch amateurs.

There are very good "classical" pro boxers like Sugar Ray Robinson / Leonard, Tszue, Hopkins with fighting style similar to amateurs to some sense (not everything of course ).
