Default How do I use a freaking powerful jab as a southpaw?

So basically Ive done a bit of Wing Chun and it has helped me develop an unusually powerful jab in boxing.

Im a southpaw and using the jab against an orthadox usually involves doubling it up and getting special angles just to the inside and outside their lead hand.

I was wondering can I blast this power jab straight through their lead hand or will it not work?

I was thinking if it was orthadox vs orthadox and I was throwing the straight right cross it would go straight through the glove and still hurt them.

Well my jab isnt as powerful as a cross but its dam well near getting there.

What advice would you give to using this power jab in with the rest of my punches?

Also is it always high risk using a jab as a southpaw?

Watch Michael Moorer and marvin hagler. Both fought soutpaw but were naturally right handed, so they had very stiff jabs.

Got it thanks mate, just watched Foreman - Moorer, I should basically use it exactly the same as my regular jab then!

Hey in reply to your last email - im glad you are around on the forums thats for sure you are very appreciated!

Also one thing ive been trying to mix up throwing a left rear cross and a left rear hook, so that way they dont know if a cross is comming or a hook and it makes it really hard for them to defend it. The only problem is the rear left hook has less range and speed than the cross and I tend to land it on their rear hand glove instead of going around/behind it. My first question is how far past 90 degrees should my elbow bend for the rear left hook??, and how do I make sure he dosnt know whether its a hook or a cross when I have to get closer for the hook than the cross? I watched Hopkins do this to a southpaw the only problem is the southpaw had his hands down, where as I spar with guys that permanently keep their hands up like all the time!

You can open the angle up more on that punch...But this is something you need to work on on the heavy bag, to learn your distance, to play around with the angle, and just in general figuring out the move you are trying to make. That is where you work out the details of angles (your foot positioning, in this case), balance weight shifts, and so on. How you set it up for example- is it a counter to what he does? Do you have to draw him into a certain action, or do you take the lead and create the opening?
Then you get in front of a mirror and then you can see if you are telegraphing it, and how so.

I would end any combination with that punch, most boxers don't expect a jab at the end of the combo, and since its strong, it will hurt, Manny does this, hell throw a 1,2 hook, jab, and it lands beautifully
