Default Ghana, best African Boxing Country??

I've been watching and keeping track of fights for a while now and Ghana seems to me to be the best African Nation when it comes to the sport of boxing. Anyone know of any good publications on the history of boxing in Ghana? I'm sure it's rich.

In terms of producing the best African fighter of all time, yes, it would be Ghana as they unleashed Azumah Nelson but overall, Id say it's the tie between Ghana and nigeria who had a murderer's row of Ike Ibeabuchi, Dick Tiger , Sam Peter and Hogan Bassey..

Ghana had Nelson, Quartey, CLottey and Kotey so it's neck and neck really..

Other than Ghana and Nigeria I wouldn't be able to tell you another African country that produces boxers (not counting South Africa).

I think Algeria have produced some good amateurs but nothing of note really in the pros. There was one guy i saw on a eursport show that fought out of France. He was a young prospoect and looked very good but cant for the life of me think of his name. He was originally from Algeria.

Ndam and Takam are both good fighters from Cameroon

Tackie...the anvil chin of Ghana Quartey the anvil jab Nelson wears the crown. Decent prospect Frederick Lawson just had a big fight fall through. South Africa hands down though.

Peter was last listed out of the North isle of Waffle House

Newfel Outah is an unbeaten Algerian heavyweight who is fighting Erkan Teper, an unbeaten German Heavy this friday. He was an ok amateur and KOd Tony in his last fight. This looks a decent scrap on paper.

    And Zambia

Charm “Shuffle” Chiteule passed away in 2008 of malaria. He was 54. The Zambian legend boxed in the era of Lottie Mwale, Chisanda Muti and John “Big Joe” Sichula and was the last surviving member of the 15-round masters from Zambia’s golden age of boxing (the 70s and early 80s). With the untimely death of the classy Chiteule, the curtain on that great era of Zambian professional boxing was drawn. John Sichula fought from 1982 to 1989 and captured the Commonwealth (British Empire) Super Featherweight Title on four different occasions. He also won the All African Lightweight Title and the African Super Featherweight Title. He finished with an admirable 23-3-1 record doing much of his fighting in Germany.

    Namibia

This country is located in Southern Africa It won independence from South Africa on March 21, 1990 following the Namibian War of Independence. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek. Curiously, after Mongolia, it is the second least populated country in the world.

On January 3, 2009, skillful Namibian Paulus “The Hitman” Moses won the WBA World Lightweight Title by UD over Yusuke Kobori in Yokohama, Japan. On July 25, 2009, he beat Takehiro Shimada to up his record to 25-0. The super quick Hitman does his hitting in several different countries including South Africa, Japan, and Ukraine, but his favorite place of work is in his hometown at the Windhoek Country Club Resort in Windhoek, Namibia

Harry “The Terminator” Simon (25-0) has returned after a 3-year layoff and beat limited Daniel Wanyonyi to bring his mark to 25-0, but he is no “Hitman.” Harry's best days are behind him.

Meanwhile, Bethuel “Unstoppable” Ushona remains just that as he beat South African Colin Mayisela to capture interim WBO Africa Welterweight Title and move his record to 19-0. He then beat Tommy “The Lion” Hango on March 20, 2010 to retain the interim belt and move his slate to 20-0.

Vikapit “The Beast Master” Meroro went to 18-1 when he waxed Kenyan Douglas “Al Capone” Otieno in March 2010 to win the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight Title. The Beast Master only loss came in the Ukraine in 2007 when he was tamed by Stas Kashtanov (19-0 at the time) in a bid for the WBC Youth World Super Middleweight Title.
