I'm not even a huge Margorito fan and I think Leo is much more a superior fighter than Antonio but I just keep thinking Margo when I watch him fight.

Me too. Maybe it's how they throw punches. Quite similar.
It's not a bad comparison at all imo, they have similar punching form, sacrifice their height/reach and rely on output. I'd agree Santa Cruz has more tools but he's also well smaller and we don't know whether he has the same tenacity or chin etc.
The way he just keeps coming forward and taking shots in order to get inside, and then he just wrecks shop.
It's a shame that Mares lost in the sense that those two would've been a great fight and easy to put together.
I think Santa Cruz will run into big problems when he meets a guy who can pot shot him and tie up, or outmuscle him and do their own work on the inside. It's partly a personal bias I'll admit, but I always have a hard time seeing guys with that style making it to the very top, especially given his size.
I get that the are both from Mexico, facially they are near twins and show good volume but I think Santa Cruz blows the doors off Margarito in versatility and speed. He's not repetitive in punch selection and he comprehends using his feet and shifting, his head actually moves and we have yet to praise him for "a granite chin". Santa Cruz shortens his shots where Tony would loop and wind em before getting in. Not to be an ass but Leo 'gets' the media side of it and he's sharp as a tack. This kid is no frills but damn he's inspired and a constant breath of fresh air.
