i could make a good case for politics/corruption in boxing

burns/beltram, mitchell banks II, chisora hellanius, pac bradley, etc etc

but its strange that there is all this corruption, bent judging, fighters throwing fights but i never hear of anyone coming clean

youd have thought that over the years with all these dodgy results at least one fighter or judge would have blabbed

they may well have, i just might not know about it, have they?

There was a Light-heavyweight champion/fighter that took the IBF and Don King to court some while back. He complained about the poor rankings system and the fixed fights King and Lee (IBF Commissioner/Owner) was asking him to participate in in order to jump him to a title fight.

Took them to court and won a title fight and won the title...

Its bizarro world. Just google WBC and corruption speaking of Don King. How that organization has managed to remain a governing body is beyond belief. How they are the most coveted of all the tin in downright mind boggling. They manipulate, change the rules on a whim and flagrantly favour certain fighters on a regular basis. For example what ever happened with the winner of the Trout/Alvarez having to decide on which belt to keep in 3 weeks after the fight? The WBC has non unification as part of there mandate. They stripped Ward for other reasons but have allowed Garcia to have two belts. Had the winner been Trout one of those belts around Alvarez's waist would have been vacant long ago.

ive just googled it and all i can find is opinions and hardships who supposed corruption

all very believable but i dont see any history of judges or fighters coming clean

Just google Blinky Palermo or Frank Carbo, boxing was bent as a nine bob note not that long ago, "the good old days," so it's hardly surprising it's still shady today.

The alphabets take a percentage per fight (sanction fee), which means the bigger the purse's the bigger cut they get. Doesn't take a genius to workout why they would favour certain fighters over others to represent them as champion.

What amazes me is that corruption is a well know fact among boxing fans but the fans seem uninterested in doing anything about it.
The average fan's attitude is, just show me the fights and don't bother me with all that corruption bullshit, let someone else worry about it--I don't have the time.
I remember asking this question before. Have any ideas about ending corruption in boxing?

I always felt the WBC's problem was corrupting judges, in particular. The IBF just straight out take bribes for their rankings and works "too closely" with promoters.

The WBO is slightly better- but it is seen as the "weaker" major organization. I guess over time it will be more widely accepted.

The WBA is and always will be the organization of standing. It's been around the longest and has a longer track record and less calls on their organization being corrupt. But their champions are always lack-lustre and as of late, the champions are very non-descript.

For some reason the boxing world loves the WBC and IBF Belts. Dunno why?!!?

As I Said in another thread I was at the fight in reading, I have to say all my companions thought Mock got abad deal. I don't remember it that well (being old) but having grown up with Warren an iffy decision in favour of an up and comer is no great surprise, it was the same with Levene, Duff and Lawless before, Warren just copied them.

Not sure what Mock did afterwards, but you've obviously done homework and got strong views, GOOD LUCK TO YOU! I've supported a lot of so called journeymen in my time who were cruelly robbed, lost the magic o's then were considered an easy judge against by hometown refs. My particular favourite was Lovemore N'dou fantastic fighter done by the system.

The WBA have too many world champions. They have three Super Middle Weight champions! Two middleweight champs and probably about 5 super welter champs.

I'm sure its them that has two heavy weight champions as well.

Its just stupid.

The world loves belts because they are shiny and they make money. Its all a farce.

There is certainly evidence that some judges have taken 'gifts' particularly in the Far East.

Like all forms of politics a lot of what happens that is corrupt is subtle, unspoken and most definitely unwritten.

Boxing has since day one been corrupt in one form or another, so it might be argued that one of the 'skills' a fighter requires is the political connections that help in boxing. And those fighters who fall foul of such deeds, rather than have the fancy giving them sympathy, they should be criticized for not having the ability to overcome their political problems...
