I had not heard of him and it reminds us the horror that humans can do and the innocent victims they leave behind.

Britain's forgotten serial killer: UK's longest-serving inmate who brutally murdered 11 people - including his own grandmother and a priest - is secretly moved to an open prison... and could soon walk FREE

A forgotten serial killer who slayed a priest with an axe and even killed his own grandmother may soon be walking the streets freely.

Patrick 'Pyscho' Mackay is one of the UK's longest-serving inmates who confessed murdering up to eleven people, including a four-year-old boy.

Names such as West, Shipman, Sutcliffe, Nilsen, Hindley, Brady, have all dominated the headlines in recent years however, in 1975 it was Mackay that left the UK horrified following a spree of gruesome murders across London and Kent.

Remarkable photos show the various demented faces of the criminal named 'the most dangerous man in Britain' at his court trial, a hacked-up body of a priest in a bathtub, and the cold dead eyes of a deranged killer staring directly into the camera.

These stomach-churning photos form part of John Lucas' new book Britain's Forgotten Serial Killer: The Devil's Disciple, a detailed and dramatic account of the notorious Nazi-obsessed killer and his victims.

'Convicted of three killings, suspected of another eight, Patrick David Mackay was dubbed the Monster of Belgravia, the Devil's Disciple and simply The Psychopath amid a torrent of public anger at the way he had repeatedly slipped through the grasp of the criminal justice system,' explained Lucas.

'When the authorities added it all up, Mackay had been incarcerated, sectioned or otherwise detained at least nineteen times before he was finally brought to justice for his horrific killing spree.'

Lucas said it was a cased that left the nation stunned and that Mackay could soon be out walking the streets freely after being allowed to change his name.

'Yet the extraordinary story of this 22-year-old Nazi-obsessive, who hacked a priest to death with an axe and killed two elderly women during a remorseless robbery campaign on the upmarket streets of West London, was all but forgotten by Christmas of 1975.

It had been expected to run and run. Among the unsolved cases Mackay had apparently confessed to in prison - but later denied under questioning - was the murder of a teenage nanny on a train and the heinous double killing of a widow and her four-year-old grandson.

The book also reveals that Mackay had also been suspected of murdering a popular café owner from Essex.*Ivy Davis' body was found at her Westcliff-on-sea home with multiple wounds to her head, as well as a ligature around her*neck on 4 February 1975.

In 2006 Essex Police questioned*68-year-old Basildon man who was arrested as part of a cold case review. She was last seen leaving the cafe on the evening of 3 February, 1975 and was discovered by her daughter the following day.

'While police had taken the initial decision not to charge Mackay with those crimes, it seemed to be only a matter of time before more evidence came to light. But the charges never materialised.

'Perhaps it was because, despite his alleged gloating to fellow prisoners, Patrick Mackay did not really kill all those people. Yet while he languishes in prison to this day - still too dangerous to be released - every one of those crimes remains unsolved.'

Mackay was born in 1952 and was raised in an abusive household and regularly beaten by his alcoholic father. It was not long before Mackay was committing criminal acts himself, particularly arson, animal cruelty, theft and stealing garden gnomes.

Medical professions saw that he had psychopathic tendencies and he was sectioned in 1968. He was released four years later and would soon be responsible for the death of at least three people.

The murderer quickly developed a fascination with Nazism and often referred to himself as 'Franklin Bollvolt the First' and frequently spoke of his desire to 'wipe out' the elderly.

He was convicted of three killings. Mackay's first identified victim was 87-year-old widow Isabella Griffiths, who was strangled and stabbed at her home in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea. Next was Adele Price, 89, strangled at her home in Lowndes Square, Kensington.

Finally, Mackay killed Father Anthony Crean in a frenzied attack using his fists, a knife and an axe in the picturesque village of Shorne, Kent, leaving the 63-year-old's mutilated body floating grotesquely in a bath full of bloody water.

Patrick Mackay: A timeline of his killings

Patrick Mackay had between three and 11 victims as not all were confirmed.

He was sentenced to prison for life in 1975.

1965: Institutionalised for trying to set fire to a Catholic Church*

1967:*At the age of 15 Mackay*was diagnosed as a psychopath by a psychiatrist, he was committed to Moss Side hospital for four years

    1975:*Kills Father*Crean with an axe*

    1975, March: Strangles Adele Price*

    1975 March 23: Arrested *

1975: Confesses, but not all crimes were charged to him**

The date was 21 March 1975. Two days later Mackay was arrested.

But Mackay's horrifying crimes probably did not end there.

Although he was charged with five counts of murder, Mackay's convictions were only for three counts of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility.
The other two cases were allowed to lie on file, meaning prosecutors believed they had enough evidence but a trial was felt not to be in the public interest.

The first victim in this group was 73-year-old widow Mary Hynes. She was choked and stabbed at her home in Willes Road, Kentish Town. Second was 62-year-old shopkeeper Frank Goodman. He was battered with a piece of metal pipe at his premises in Rock Street, Finsbury Park.

Finally, there were five unsolved murders, which Mackay allegedly confessed to while in jail, later telling police he was not responsible. The victims in those cases were 18-year-old Heidi Mnilk, Stephanie Britton, Christopher Martin, Sarah Rodmell and Ivy Davies.

Mackay also admitted to killing an unidentified homeless man by pushing him into a canal. The body was never found.

Despite his alarming crimes and the sordid accusations surrounding Mackay, Lucas is concerned that the serial killer may soon be released from prison without the general public's knowledge.

If he really did kill eleven people, he would be the UK's fifth most prolific serial killer.

'Mackay faded into obscurity in the minds of the British public, far more than other serial killers of his era,' added Lucas.

'In fact, he has been able to change his name and win the right to live in an open prison - the first step on the road to eventual freedom - without a shred of publicity surrounding the decision.

'Far from being one of Britain's most notorious inmates, he is not even recognised as being the country's longest-serving living prisoner.

'That title was wrongly held by murderer John Massey before he was released in May 2018, even though he had been jailed seven months after Mackay in May 1976.'

Lucas said that most assume the flamboyant and infamous Charlie Bronson now holds the record, but that is not the case.

Instead, it is the forgotten serial killer, Patrick Mackay, who has been inside the longest.

'It is worth noting that Mackay may have had some influence over his low profile.

'Unlike other killers such as Dennis Nilsen and Ian Brady, Mackay is not known to have ever replied to a letter sent by 'fans' or 'pen pals' who would inevitably have sold any response to the newspapers.

'Perhaps it was a calculated move, perhaps it was a result of poor literacy.
'The question remains: was Patrick Mackay really one of Britain's most prolific serial killers, as detectives originally suspected?

'That mystery is what this book sets out to examine.'

A jewelry box led police to revisit hundreds of deaths. They may have found a serial killer.

Phyllis Payne’s family thought that she had died of natural causes.
There was no reason to be suspicious when the spunky Texas grandmother, who had been spending the last years of her life in a retirement community in Dallas, passed away in April 2016 at the age of 91.

"When they discovered her, they said she looked like she had just died in her sleep,” her daughter, Loren Adair, told WFAA.

Years later, an unexpected call from a police detective would change everything. As Payne’s family learned, authorities now believe that she was murdered by Billy Chemirmir, who had been posing as maintenance worker at senior living facilities across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

The 46-year-old was indicted on numerous homicide charges last week. Police believe he murdered at least a dozen elderly women, which would make him one of the state’s most prolific serial killers, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Officials have said Chemirmir smothered his victims with pillows before making off with their jewelry or other valuables. Because the women were elderly and lived alone, their deaths were not considered suspicious and initially did not get investigated.

“That was heart-wrenching to find out that she had not died peacefully,” Adair told WFAA. “It was heartbreaking.”

Chemirmir has insisted he is innocent. “They have circumstantial evidence that puts him in the area but that’s as far as the evidence goes,” Phillip Hayes, his attorney, told the Associated Press last week.

Officials began reevaluating the deaths of hundreds of elderly women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area last year, suspecting that they might have overlooked a pattern of homicides. The investigation began in March 2018, not long after a 91-year-old woman was attacked and robbed in her Plano, Tex., apartment.

The nonagenarian told police that a man had forced his way in, telling her to lie down in bed and not fight him. When she obeyed his commands, he placed a pillow over her face to smother her. Before long, she lost consciousness, according to court records obtained by the Morning News.

Miraculously, the woman, whose name has not been released, survived. A friend happened to stop by in time to call paramedics, who revived her. But by the time the 91-year-old regained consciousness, her assailant was long gone. So was her jewelry box.

Police began investigating. Earlier that month, someone had reported a suspicious vehicle at the Plano apartment complex. The license plate traced back to Chemirmir, and detectives began staking out his home. As they watched from a distance one night, they saw him tossing a jewelry box into the trash.

Inside, they found a name written on a piece of paper, which they linked to Lu Thi Harris, an 81-year-old living less than 10 miles away in Far North Dallas. No one at her home answered the door, and when police made their way inside, they found Harris dead in her bedroom with lipstick smeared around her mouth. A pillow lying on the bed also had lipstick stains on it, leading investigators to conclude that she had been suffocated.

The gruesome discovery was the key break detectives needed in another case that had been puzzling them for months.

In October 2017, a 93-year-old woman had been attacked and robbed at an assisted living facility in Frisco, less than 20 miles away from Plano. She told police that a well-dressed man knocked on her door and identified himself as a maintenance worker, asking if she needed anything done. When she declined, he forced his way into the apartment and knocked her to the ground.

The man picked up a pillow and tried to smother the 93-year-old before taking her wooden jewelry box and leaving, according to the Morning News. When he was gone, the victim, whose name has not been released, used her emergency alert button to call for help.

Detectives in Frisco began investigating, but the woman couldn’t describe her attacker in enough detail for them to pinpoint a suspect.
When they learned that Chemirmir had been arrested, police in Frisco checked his phone records. As it turned out, his cellphone had connected with a cell tower roughly a half-mile from the woman’s apartment on the day of the attack, according to the Morning News.

The striking parallels between the three cases led authorities to charge Chemirmir with capital murder in Harris’s death and attempted capital murder in the attacks on elderly women in Plano and Frisco. After his March 2018 arrest, police found a cache of women’s jewelry, cellphones and medical scrubs in his apartment, according to WFAA.

For police in Plano, Frisco and Dallas, the discoveries raised one major question: How many elderly women had their deaths chalked up to natural causes or existing health problems when, in fact, they had been killed?

At a news conference in March 2018, officials pledged to take a closer look at hundreds of deaths that, up to that point, hadn’t been considered suspicious. Payne had her body exhumed so that the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office could conduct an autopsy for the first time.

The initial results of that investigation were revealed to the public last week, when Chemirmir was indicted on an additional six capital murder charges in Dallas County and five capital murder cases in Collin County, where Frisco and Plano are located. In Dallas County, where he already faced charges in the March 2018 death of Lu Thi Harris, he is accused of killing an additional six women who ranged in age from 76 to 94 and who died in 2016 and 2018. The names and ages of the five women in Collin County haven’t been released.
Police are continuing to look for more potential victims, the Morning News reported, and haven’t revealed how the 11 new homicides were linked to Chemirmir.

A citizen of Kenya, Chemirmir has lived in the greater Dallas area for more than a decade and had a history of DWI and assault charges, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In 2016, he had also been charged with trespassing at a retirement community in Dallas where one of his alleged victims reportedly lived. He is being held on $9.1 million bail. Because he is in the country illegally, federal immigration authorities have additionally placed a jail hold on him.

The case has led to multiple lawsuits against senior living facilities and retirement communities in the area, the Star-Telegram reported. Families of three of the women allege the facilities didn’t have adequate security, which allowed Chemirmir to pose as a maintenance worker or caregiver without being detected. One suit was settled for an undisclosed sum in September, while the other two are still pending. None of the facilities have admitted wrongdoing.

Officials haven’t said whether autopsies were performed on the 11 women when they first died. But being smothered by a pillow would leave little evidence of foul play, one expert told the Morning News. If the deceased person was elderly and had existing medical conditions, that would further decrease the likelihood that investigators would look for red flags like fibers on the victim’s body.

That has raised concerns for some advocates, who worry that the deaths of older people aren’t being fully investigated because authorities draw certain conclusions based on age.

“Maybe it’s easier to say, ‘This person is over 70 so they had a heart attack,’ but we don’t know that,” Dee Wadsworth, a retired gerontologist, told the Morning News. “If that person has no history of a heart condition, then further investigation is warranted by the medical examiner.”

Yes, it is a serial killer who also happens to be in my country illegally it's what we like to call a "double whammy". Luckily for the law and order side of things he wasn't in a sanctuary city where he'd be protected at all costs.
