    Default Personality

I was going to put this in the serial killer thread but thought its own thread would be better.

The word personality comes from the Latin ‘personal’ which means mask.

Nature v Nurture or DNA v Upbringing – some experts conclude our genetics inheritance has virtually nothing at all to do with our personalities are formed. We as human beings are very dependant on our environments. Humans are freed up from our genes so that we can actually benefit from experiences and adapt to our environment. Humans are highly dynamic creatures that interact with the environment all the time.

The key factors in childhood are the quality of early care, how responsive your parents are, your position in the family and the narrative your parents impose on you based on what you have done to them in your childhood. The first 6 years of life is critical but not definitive in determining personality. It can be changed.

We do not have a single personality that is genetically inherited and which manifests in all contexts. In other words we can be extrovert to some people and introvert to others.

Here is an example of someone who has not been loved and is a perennial loser in life.

If alcoholism can be "inherited" then wouldn't that count as PART of a personality trait?

Also the best way to judge nature vs nurture re: inherited personality traits would be to compare adopted kids with their biological parents...I think that would cause for some interesting studies.

Master, what on earth do you think you are doing? The OP is fine as an elongated preamble waffle, but you didn't come down to the killer question that everyone has to answer. So, I am not sure what is being asked of us.

Master was not waffling he has eloquently taken your wooden God to pieces. Grammar is not innate, Language is a tool formulated in response to the environment. Chomsky is a fraud, the naked Empereor who has had his entire wardrobe imagined by sycophants like you.

Threads do not have to pose a question.

    Thank you Greenbeanz

The Rorschach inkblot test created in 1920’s involves pictures of inkblots that have been folded over on themselves to create a mirror image. The idea is that by asking people to tell you what they see, they reveal their inner thoughts.

I think that specific area of behaviour expresses itself as we age. Oddly enough I'm reading a book now called The Introvert Advantage by Marti Olsen Laney.

I found I have grown to enjoy my own company in many cases more then that of others.

As an identical twin I've always been fascinated by this topic. Also as a hard determinist.
