Anyone who doesn't respect him as a legit, elite trainer is a jackass. That was not the same Maidana who fought Khan and Alexander, and it wasn't a fluke that he did so well against Mayweather.
He was prepared beautifully. He mixed up his attack with a great game plan. Floyd had a hard time hitting him clean. I know Floyd landed at a very high connect %, but a lot of those connected shots were either partially blocked or Chino was rolling/pulling away from so they didn't have much starch on them. Chino was great defensively, considering the speed/skill/accuracy of the guy he was fighting.
Here's a guy people were saying had no chance against Broner, that he was a tailor made opponent chosen so Broner could look good, and he ended up smashing Broner.
Then people said the same shit about him going into the Floyd fight, that he was a hand picked patsy who offered nothing of interest to Floyd, how it was going to be an easy day at the office for Floyd and probably an opponent he could get an easy KO/TKO off of.
Well this is the second time he's said "fuck you" to the critics. He almost legitimately defeated Floyd. I and most people had Floyd winning by a slim margin (7-5), so if Chino would have been a little more effective in two of those rounds he would have dethroned Mayweather.
I was a fan of Garcia as a fighter. As a trainer I think he imparts his wisdom on his fighters, but like any other trainers, the fighters have to be willing to accept his counsel, comprehend what hes telling them and put it into practice in the ring. Sometimes that happens, sometimes its doesn't. I think it really comes down to how close the fighters are to him. He can be a little casual and the camps could be a little lapse when it comes to discipline, it seems. I take that as hes not going to cram his instructions down your throat. As a fighter and an adult, if you know whats good for you, you'll listen to your trainer. He gets paid anyway whether you win or lose. It would appear that the fighters that are closer to him and his family, benefit more from his teaching. I think things also get a little crazy with clowns like Ariza and previously rios, margarito acting out and that takes away from the perception that Garcia is doing what he needs to do. He was a good fighter and is a good trainer... but it comes down to the fighters.
Rios is limited with his skills, donaire's mind was split between fighting and not fighting, between slugging and boxing, between his dad and garcia. Margarito was going to fight like magarito always had once he got in the ring, garcia wasnt going to turn him into tommy hearns. A good trainer will always look better with fighters that are willing to make the most of their opportunity. Chino seems to be one of those fighters.

They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

My only dislike about Garcia is he tolerates a lot of nonsense in his camp by his fighters. Traditional trainers keep command of his gym. I don't see that from Garcia. Guys in there are clowning around forgetting they are pros.
He is a good trainer though. Maidana, Rios def benefit from him.
Donaire I don't think so. I think Donaire is an idiot who is mentally weak and his heart aint whole unlike traditional filipino fighters. Win or lose. The dumb fuck soften up just cause he had a son, dafuq? He deserves the Rigo whooping. How do you train over the phone with you trainer? I would like to see him retire after getting ktfo. Too bad cause Donaire is Garcias most talented fighter but if only he had Rios or Maidana heart and mental toughness.
He does seem to let too much of the boxers get away with a lot of messing about. The trainer he uses for fitness and losing weight who kicked Roach is also an ass. Do not know why he keeps him.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
He got Maidana to throw a GOOD jab (not decent, not "ok", and not a "respectable", jab) but a pretty good jab from the outside, right pocket- quick enough to keep Mayweather from throwing the overhand right over the top.
I never saw Maidana throw a jab in any of his fights aside from what he threw tonight... lolololol.....

Celebrity. Lol its just incredible how people either throw people under the bus weekly or go full on the other way. If Floyd makes it look easy he just beat another scrub and it was predetermined but if he puts himself in a fight or chooses to be in one then he got old overnight. has no legs left etc etc, or now Garcia becomes the reincarnation of Ray Arcel.
Maidana was and is the same flailing plodder as he was prior to Garcia coming on board. Broner is a great example also. Prior to Maidana, Broner was a hype job and yet the wide majority picked him to wax Maidana, myself included. After the fight Broner becomes a scrub but now Garcia is credited with some great win. Wait a second if Broner was shit to begin with then how is that amount of credit possible?
Floyd was a 10 to 1 favourite who said he wanted to make it a fight and its funny because I said he looked like he was playing around last night and was steering the fight and it was dismissed even when it was clear as day that he was taking it to the ropes and not Maidana. The only response I got is that he would use that as an excuse after the fight so even the person that replied saw something.
Its just like the punch stat numbers. Sure Maidana threw around a hundred punches a round but the same stats say he missed 3 short of 700. Mayweather never used his legs at all. Is someone going to come on here and say its because of some master plan from Garcia because my follow up question would be to ask if you even watched the fight. How about his jab? Is Garcia going to get credit for that also? Floyd stood right in front of him half an arm length away. Of course he was going to land the jab.
They never had to find Floyd and exploit some magical formula. He was right there.
Garcia is a damn good trainer. I don't know what happened with him and Donaire but I would venture to say that it was Nonito's personal issues as well as his approach to the Rigo fight that led to their separation. Didn't help that Guillermo took him to 3rd grade with that clinic. Robert Garcia is a top notch trainer.
He is a quality trainer with a fluid boxers perspective brought from his time in the ring. All the drama and bs seen in camp previous, he has contributed to Maidana improving and the jab is at the forefront of that. Its really as simple as Maidana leaving detractors with their shoes in the mouth by manhandling a fraud and pushing Mayweather like very few have in his entire career. I thought Broner was very beatable, didn't think Maidana would lay a glove on Mayweather. Shame on me. Floyd was in a fight, and it was just as much Maidana forcing the cause/effect.
Sir, I'm going to ask you first. Did you even watch the fight?
I can't believe you think Floyd put himself on those ropes voluntarily. Why would Floyd, a fighter who rarely loses a round, do that? So he could lose 3 or 4 rounds in a row?
Maidana rarely used the jab before Garcia got his hands on him. Name me one fight, before Garcia, where Maidana's jab was a factor. Hell, Maidana was using the jab to keep Floyd off balance and out of range.
Let's get real, that was a close fight, if it had been in Texas it's a draw, in Argentina it's all Maidana.
I think Floyd deserved the win, but it was close.
Maidana deserves a rematch and Robert Garcia deserves some credit for helping Maidana turn his career around. In my opinion.
