Default How Big is this Super Sunday in UK?

A curious Yank would like to know the magnitude of this all Futbol day? It's all over US tv today so I'm assuming it's a big deal across the pond. The sport has grown on me I must say in the last few years. I used to not be able to stomach it but now I've come to understand it and actually am looking forward to Brazil. Sorry for the off topic boxing question ,but I'm very intrigued by This.

It is massive but has been an anti climax as Man City won it easy.

Not important at all is just a name for football on a sunday, they have this every week of the season, 8 months.
It is usually two games one at 12.30 and another at 1.30.

Unless it involves one of the local teams outside the top 4-5 clubs, it is not important at all, it is played in every pub/bar and usually ignored.

Since football is on tv 7 days a week, no one gives a shit they also show two football games at 12.30 and 5pm the previous day on saturday, so no one gives a shit.

Thanks, while I have no idea about the Premiere League format about crowning a club Champion, I do enjoy watching it on tv. The level of play is incredible. Over here the MLS sucks and is just way too overshadowed by other sports. I try to watch the Mexican League but that doesn't even compare to euro futbol. They are going crazy in Manchester right now I bet.

The format couldn't be simpler. 20 teams play each other twice, one home one away, 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw. Whoever gets most points wins the league. Not split into conferences, no play offs.

The name 'Super Sunday' is a bit of a gimmick, it really depends whose playing. They can be great when the top teams play each other on the same day but today was a bit of an anti climax because Man City had virtually won the league already.

The football league is at the heart of British Culture. The Premiership is an abberation and undermines the very foundations upon which football was built. It divorces each club from its community and has undermined the effectiveness of the national team. The Premiership is all about money and product and sells faux passion and integrity as though it were genuine.

For once you may be right City have over spent and probably will be fined a record £50 million which will not even hurt them.

32,000 fans in Division 2 every week (now league 1) mate. Also hold the English football league attendance record - 84.000 back in the 30's.

Almost every successful club 'buys trophies'.

What Silkeyjoe was meant to say was congratulations.

It will hurt us because 20m euros will be deducted from us for the next 3 seasons. That will count against us in terms of FFP. It's load of shite. FFP exists apparently to stop clubs going into debt. City aren't anywhere near being in debt. We've invested £200m into a training complex which will enable us to develop our own players, which in turn should help the future of the national team, and we will be making a profit by next season.

Where was FFP when AC Milan were transformed from a Serie B team to one of the greatest European sides of all time? Where was it when Real Madrid embarked on their Galactico era? Where was it when Abramovich bought Chelsea?

FFP is designed to keep a cartel of prestigious European Clubs happy. That's it. It's a joke. I hope City and PSG take Uefa to court.
