    Runner up

I remember the Gonzalez fight from 92. Kiatwanchai's national anthem lasted longer than the fight.

The night of Hearns/Leonard, I was out walking my dog. Some people had paid for the fight and had a projection screen set up in their back yard, having a party to watch the fight. I'd stand on there fence looking over, until their dog would bark at me. Then I'd walk around the block, come back and watch some more.

Default Gene Tunney X Jack Dempsey I & II

Hope IamInuit and the mods don't mind me posting this here:

88 yrs ago on this date Jack Dempsey X Gene Tunney I

87 yrs ago on yesterday's date, the rematch occurred - Gene Tunney X Jack Dempsey II - this fight was aka "The Long Count Fight" - Dempsey insisted on a new rules change when fighter is downed, opponent goes to a neutral corner - Dempsey floors Tunney with a combo and forgets to go to a neutral corner and the ref doesn't start counting which gives Tunney variable seconds to recover.
"A good stickgrappler has good stick skills, good grappling, & good stickgrappling & can keep track of all 3 simultaneously. This is a good trick & can be quite effective." - Marc 'Crafty Dog' Denny

I think Tunney picked up a $1 million dollar cheque.

Default Re: This day in boxing. A look back.

i posted the fights to my site along with some trivia for The Long Count Fight

The rematch was simultaneously the first million dollar gate as well as 2 million dollar gate in entertainment history!
