Not seen Camacho v Rosario but heard Macho Man was very defensive in his career after getting hurt in that fight.

    June 18th

    Fight of the day

1963: Cassius Clay KO 5 Henry Cooper. Lots of urban legend surrounds this fight even going as far to say that Angelo tore a glove in order to get extra time in the corner for Ali to recoup. Its even been suggested that Ali's one minute rest time was delayed for “several minutes.” Sir Henry caught him good but that simply didn’t happen.

1923: Pancho Villa KO 7 Jimmy Wilde. Wins World Flyweight Title. A little bias disease if I may. Mr Wilde could have had as many as 500 fights by then and had 140 or so officially registered. Jimmy was stopped 3 times in 140+ fights. Two were his last two and the other way back and in the 17th round.

1929: Panama Al Brown W 15 Gregorio Vidal. Wins vacant World Bantamweight Title. Brown would go on to own the title for another 6 years. He was also gay.

1934: Jackie Brown D 15 Valentin Angelmann. Retains NBA Flyweight Title.

1941: Joe Louis KO 13 Billy Conn. Retains World Heavyweight Title. Billy fell asleep at the wheel and while being up on the cards he all of a sudden went for the ko and got ko'd himself.

1958: Yama Bahama W 10 Kid Gavilan. The Kid would retire after this fight and today remains one of the best Cuban fighters that ever lived. Probably rolling in his grave at today’s crop of overall underachievers.

1963: Cassius Clay KO 5 Henry Cooper.

1965: Nino Benvenuti KO 6 Sandro Mazzinghi. Wins World Super Welterweight Title.

1976: Eckhard Dagge KO 10 Elisha Obed. Wins WBC Super Welterweight Title.

1977: Victor Galindez W 15 Richie Kates. Retains WBA Light Heavyweight Title.

1989: Tony Lopez KO 8 Tyrone Jackson. Retains IBF Super Featherweight Title.

2005: Antonio Tarver W 12 Glen Johnson. Regains World Light Heavyweight Title.

2008: Oleydong Sithsamerchai KO 9 Junichi Ebisuoka. Retains WBC Strawweight Title.

2011: Saul Alvarez KO 12 Ryan Rhodes. Retains WBC Super Welterweight Title.
-Adrien Broner KO 1 Jason Litzau.

This day in boxing history I lost an amateur bout for the first time. I was 14. I remember the winner got a gold medal and I got a silver. I recall saying "Thanks, does the ref get a bronze?"
Guess I was a smartass even then.
