Default Does side to side movement work?

These days most trainers don't teach side to side footwork many have the idea that once you move out of range you have to work again to get that range back.
Others believe that using side to side movement can actually get you hit while you're moving to the side plus you're off your feet.it seems more and more these days that it's about the clinch and the pivot.many of the greatest defense of fighters today and past haver never used the side to side footwork.
What are your thoughts is side to side movement necessary in boxing or is it a fading fad?

I study fights fights! What I was referring to was both feet leaving the ground... It could be said that side steps and pivots can be paired! Both feet leaving the ground simultaneously is side stepping.

You are better off circling left and right than you are moving 'side-to-side.'

What I meant NVSEMIN is that most side stepping including mayweather's is this.
