Default That shot Hearns KOed Duran with was a slap?

If you look carefully Hearns has his elbow way down and his hand way up as if waving to duran at high speeds.

It catches duran on the chin and knocks him out.

How did it have any power without proper bone alignment?

Was it a mistake or is this an advanced pro punch?

I have a much better slo mo gif from a better angle but I cant upload it, this is next best, it looks like a straight right at fast speed but I assure you his arm is bent quite a bit at the elbow and he strikes with the bottom of his fist

Could be, but he gets his legs and a full step under in totally, and Hearns just had that natural ability to turn over those wide or long punches on a drop. Its still the equivalent of getting kicked by a horse the way it was set up yet Duran didn't see the punch, what do you expect?

Maybe it's because Duran had spent the last 60 seconds staggering around like a drunk from all the "proper" right hands Hearns was battering him with.

It looked like a very hard shot to me...

It had oodles of snap. Like the crack of a whip.

In practice very few KO shots are technically perfect. Only in the gym.

Also seemed to catch him in a good spot, turned his head right around.

    Night night Roberto!

Good heavens, I agreed with Max. @OMGWTF look at where the weight is when Tommy lands that punch. that is your 'rear hook' or right cross or overhand right. Elbow down at the start, bring it over the top. That is exactly what you are supposed to do.

OMGWTF you need to spend more time in the gym buddy because you're obviously spending too much time looking for things that just aren't there. Best thing for you right now is to just get in the ring and try to punch a cunt in the head whilst not letting that cunt punch you in the head. You'll quickly realize that all this bullshit you've been wasting time pondering is completely useless without application/testing and that you will discover better, more practical things to work on with a most important sense of urgency so that next week you can punch that cunt in the head without him punching you. I've noticed that you've given up preaching your theories in the ask the trainer section which is a good start because you'll never win as you intend to there as the clique has already been established. However, amongst the yoda babble there are some real gems that you will stumble across but you need to just take them and then go work on your chops instead of sitting at your keyboard scratching your chin and pointing upward to the heavens.

    That's a right hook.

The problem is (in relation to the turning over/ hooking motion) the rear view makes it look like Tommy moving the wrist from the elbow like an arm wrestle move but from the side you can clearly see how much depth there is in the release of the punch. Which catches Duran is such a sweet spot.

I'm not sure where you get slap from though.

There's no way a 10 year old child would have been KO'd by that weak punch, let alone a multi-division champion like Duran. It was a clear fixed fight, Duran was riding a wave from doing so well vs Hagler, so they knew they could clean up betting on a 2nd round KO and that's what they did. Both guys should be ashamed.

Don't look at the punch, look at Duran's reaction. If that slumping forward, hands down reaction doesn't indicate a powerful brain disconnectiog punch (however it was delivered), I don't know what would.

I've heard a lot of crazy things but Hearns 'slapping' is a first.

Duran was never ever knocked out like that ever by another opponent!

Hearns had the one of the most vicious right hands!

Do the maths, it was not a slap. OMGWTF!

Mystery solved so its a long range overhand right. Just how you taught me grey, even though he does connect with the bottom of the fist he turns his elbow up just enough to connect all his bodyweight anyway, I reckon.

So all those times on forums where people give that gif as an example of the perfect straight right or p4p the best straight right they have been wrong lol (its like the go to gif when that question comes up) its a long range overhand right.

It's just an improvised right hand thrown after Duran reacted to a jab thrown to the body. You try and label everything so that you can go to the garage and hit the heavy bag with whatever punch so and so threw at whoever else in whatever minute of whatever round. You remind me of a guy who used to post in ask the trainer called HerbM. He'd try and break things down to the most absurd detail as if boxing was some perfectly ordered procedure where you only had to focus on one thing at a time. He had a tag like "always a novice" yet he'd ask people questions only so he could provide his own pre - conceived answers in a transparent attempt to somehow prove himself right all along. There's another guy in there now called jms who is suddenly some kind of expert after posting "profound" analyses for a few months now. Watching you guys spar would be ridiculous. You'd be stopping every few seconds asking the other guy to throw a jab at a certain angle at only half tempo so that you could counter with a rear foot push down driven scapula enema punch that you imagined some bloke planned to land whilst his eyes were closed after his opponent slipped slightly when he threw a tired pawed jab in the twelfth round. Meanwhile some frustrated random in the gym on his first day would beat the shit out of both you then have to listen to you try and give him tips afterwards.
