Havana was the Las Vegas of today.
I never knew Willard won the Tex Ricards world title belt.
They wore seven ounce gloves!
Dempsey was very skilled to beat Willard.
Not going to a neutral corner is a good idea!
Dempsey could have got disqualified when he left the ring thinking he won the fight.
Also forgot Willard lost to Firpo.
Good to see Willard and Dempsey dancing when they were older and still friends after that massacre.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
And may very well turn into another Vegas again!
Imagine if they had a Don King championship belt
That anemic looking scrawny fly from Wales wore 4 oz mitts. When John L fought Corbett for the first gloved title under Queens berry they wore 5 oz. Most likely sheep skin stuffed with straw
Baer and the Nazi fought with 6 oz badger hair stuffed gloves. Mr Dempsey was in charge of that fight and weighed them.
Gloves today are designed to protect the hand more then they are to damage the target.
With all due respect to Willard he was short on talent. He did great for a guy who never started fighting until 27 or something but he was just a giant who was tough. Jack carved him up just because he knew how to through a straight punch. You could have served high tea in between Willards shots.
Not going to the neutral corner cost Dempsey the first Tunney fight and he was the one that asked for the new rule to be used or rather demanded it. The neutral corner rule is one of the home runs in rule changes.

I did not know Dempsey asked for going to a neutral corner rule I would have thought Tunney would have asked for it.
That Dempsey would have beaten Tunney. I am sure of it. That Jack Dempsey was smart, hungry and ruthless.
