Default first step in the right direction

well, i'm going to check out a boxing gym tomorrow morning. i'm sure it's nothing special, but it's what i got (i live on fort irwin, CA {like 40 miles from the next town, middle of desert}) other than the gym though, my dad's friend was a golden gloves boxer before he joined the army, and he said he'd help me if i need/want it. what should i expect walking in as an average joe? any thing i can do to make a good impression? any help would be appreciated

all gysm are different. before the forum crashed we had a post about how they train in your gym. everyone was different. just expect to work hard, get sweaty and take alot in.

go and introduce yourself to the trainers, say your starting out, and your eager to COMPETE.
it doesnt matter if you want to get fit, tell them you want to compete. trainers hate get fitters, and untill somone makes the effort to talk to themm, they see you all as get fitters.

say you want to compete, and theyl treat you specially, get you fitter than the rest, teach you more and give you better oppertunities.

make sure u can skip with a rope, u probably will have to do that.

and as you alreayd know, good stance, guard up, punches come from the legs upward, not just the arm (usally)

    good luck mate

thanks guys, i hope i can compete. i'm not so sure because the place is run for the soldiers, not usually their family. i'll still talk to the trainers, though
