Default Why Andy Ruiz is special!

Forget about his lack of definition, or his height... the reason why he is special is because he is an ORGANICALLY grown HW.

So often now we have guys that come into the fight game very late. Often times it's guys that were other sports stars- basketball or football- and then they have a career ending injury and need to fight.

But, Andy Ruiz, sorta like Chris Arreola (with Arreola really being an overblown Supermiddle/LH than he should be a HW) started out boxing as a lad and grew into the system as a junior and then a senior amateur fighter.

He put the fight game down for a while and got into some other stuff.... most likely eating pork-pies.... and then he came back to the game!

His skill and pedigree is very deceptive. You think you are going in with a fat slob, while a little true, you are going in with a well polished fighter with great skill and technique.

If Ruiz's pedigree expands anymore they'll be using a park bench in his corner instead of a stool ffs.

Lyakovich gave him so many problems. I had the fight a draw. Ruiz needs to lose some pounds but still I think he isn't going anywhere

Ruiz looked very ordinary against Liakovich in his last fight. Not special at all.

In fact id say for a touted prospect he looked awfull.

Said it in the other thread, but if Ruiz wants to be a true player at HW he needs to get in shape. It's fine he can fight at 270, but he will be much quicker and mobile at lower weights. There's absolutely no reason why he should be any more than 230lbs.

He needs to work with a nutritionist and get some discipline.

I accept he is not shaped like Holyfield, Shavers, Wilder and never will be but I do not think he has the talent Tubbs, Dokes or Bowe.

Alls I'm saying is that we were looking for an organically grown HW for years since Bowe left the scene.... everyone who was someone in the am's was in and around Bowe's time.

Ruiz gave us something to believe in with the amateur system. Especially for HW's.

How often do you get an American HW with more than 50 amateur fights these days? Hardly ever?!?! Let alone one that goes to international competition and wins and then becomes a success in the professional ranks!
