Here's an article that sort of shows the thing i'm talking about
Performance U. Fitness Continuing Education | Why NOT to do Resistance Band (Shadow) Boxing
In the video, I think his whole argument is completely different to what the point my trainer was getting at with it, it's not so much to increase explosiveness it's to correct form.
Basically it's a long elastic band that goes around your body and under your arms, you then shadow box with it.
My trainer gave me one and told me to use it, I can see the benefits of it although I haven't had enough time to properly use it here's the pro's and con's from the small experience I've had.
Pro's:
Keeps your arms in tight
forces you to shoot out your punches
forces you to keep your hands up
would help prevent flaring the elbow
Con's
The tightness means that it's easy not to get full extension on your punches, you really have to work to get your full reach, if you aren't aware of this or for a newer boxer could really affect how long their punches are
because it pulls your arm back it's not really forcing you to do it which means there's potential to get lazy.
I made this thread to see peoples opinions, I definitely wouldn't recommend a beginner to use it because I think it would create a lot of bad habits. I've been boxing for around 4 years and had 7 fights so I'd put myself in the intermediate category. One of my problems is that when I get tired my hands lower and I don't really move my head or my feet.. Basically I don't have any defence, I was wondering if you think this band would potentially help that?
