to put it simply, it does.

your using a similar movement for straight muscles, and although real power comes from turning your weight into a punch, having high muscular strength really will help.
muscle strength will aid in core strength allowing you to convert your weight better and faster, but will also add to the "hold of the punch"

when you hit a target, especially with hooks, you need to keep your arm in a solid position and whip it through the target with your body. weaker chest muscles and arm muscles will bend and "give" as you hit the target, and therefore a proportion of the force will be lost.

is it tuesday already? lol, i thought this question was due yesterday

    maybe a sticky required....

weight lifting benefits all sports, just know the difference between sports SPECIFIC exercise and bodybuilding. The aim of the game is to improve your punching power, stamina and endurance... not look like the next Mr Olympia

I read not long ago that Shane Moseley is able to bench press more than Joe Frazier was able to bench press; I doubt he hits harder. I would suppose that Ken Norton bench pressed more than did Joe Louis but he did not hit harder. And McCline and Grant and any of these gigantic heavyweights can bench a Volvo but their punches can't seem to break an egg.

Its all about technique, you cna have a porshe... but if you can't drive for shit you may aswell have a larder...

My mate can bench well into the 300s I can barely becnh in the 200s. I punch probably 5-10 harder than he can and thats with the 2 stone weight advantage...

Fitness and strength are important, but technique comes first.

Your leg muscles are more important in punching than your arms are.
