The body works all or nothing, you train movements not muscles.

That said, I think 'Functional Training' should be about improving movements. For instance in boxing, these would be exercises that improve footwork, punching, and responsiveness. Using a bit of kit like elastic cords/bands, it can be set up to improve specific movements when used properly. This way a fighter's body can 'feel' which adjustments to make, rather than depending on the coach to constantly tell them which adjustments to make.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

Its the right idea Chris, but you do train muscle, for strength and alinement in conjunction with the CNS. Ill put some ideas up later.

Functional training is needed for the boxer. Your technique is bad if you are tired. And the guy who is more hardy and less technical can win.

Simce most people lead a sedentary and somewhat inactive life some parts of their bodies don't won't work the way they are supposed to. Our neck and shoulders are probably very weak as office work has a negative impact. Functional training can help a lot. I would say that boxing is functional in itself.
