    Default Creed

I sat down and watched Creed last week. I thought it would be a mess of a film, but was surprised by the decent reception it got so thought I would give it a chance. For the first 80 minutes I thought it was really not very good at all. I simply didn't care for the Creed character nor his relationship. In fact, at times I couldn't even understand what he was saying when he was speaking to his girlfriend. It is saying something when Rocky is the only one enunciating clearly. Mumble, mumble, slang, mumble. Huh?

The film did really come to life once Rocky started getting sick because you always care deeply about Rocky. He has been with you so long and he really is very old now. The fight at the end was fantastic though and finally I started to get behind Creed. Bellew was corny at times, but he did look very good in the fight, though a bit flabby like Tarver was. The tension was great. My palms were getting hot and I found myself standing up a few times in the living room getting really excited.

Overall I give it 7/10 for the final 40 minutes. I only wish that the character building had been better for Creed and his relationship as it didn't affect me. Rocky and Adrien for instance were drawn so much more tenderly and you really cared, but in this film there was too much waffly mumbling and no real emotion. Very manufactured.

My order of best Rocky films is:

    Rocky 1
    Rocky 2
    Rocky 3
    Rocky Balboa
    Rocky 5
    Rocky 4
    Creed

4 is fun but the storytelling suffers with all the soundtrack stuff and a lot of training. Its fun but spartan in terms of character development.

I just thought 5 tried to tell more of a story like the first 2. Far from perfect but it was alright.

Watched Creed last night. If you're a Rocky fan, what's not to like.
    My order would be 2 , 3 , 1, 4, Creed, 5, Rocky Balboa. 😄

Rocky 4 is the best film ever made in the history of films.

    Rocky 5 never happened.

Rocky 5 is underappreciated IMO. I like how it is back to family and character building again. Rocky retiring with brain damage is really sad and to lose all the money which of course does happen. It had moments with Adrien and with Paulie and even a glimpse of Mickey, it still had the formula. The only weakness really was the street fight to finish it. Rocky 4 was sometimes like an advert for holidaying in the Russian wilderness, but still a very good fight, though silly East against West grandstanding. Rocky 1 is just a perfect film IMO. I love everything about it.

Quit saying Rocky. Plus you don't even wear one on your wrist.

As a film Rocky 1 is the best and it got gradually worse until 5 which was rubbish. You are giving too much credit to the film, it is a rip off of all the famous catch phrases and cliche in boxing.

I liked 5 as 3 and 4 were so paper thin in terms of character. In terms of having substance it was an improvement. The cliches were all in 4 with the overblown killing machine, East against West, power pop workouts etc. People say 5 is poor but I disagree. I like it and if you don't like 5 then liking 4 means you are a fan of exercise videos more than anything else. There is a story in 5. Not bad at all. It explores new ground with the end of a career and having to start again.

I'll say this for Rocky 5. The End is great. Not the pony street fight, but the proper end when Elton sings The Measure of a Man over stills of Rocky and co's journey.

The street fight brings a tear to my eye for the reason it destroyed the stupid franchise.

Yeah, very different films. Raging Bull is the Greatest Boxing film ever, with the greatest Actor ever.
The Rocky films are fantasy and include one of the most wooden actors ever, but you know what? It's FUN.
Some Boxing fans take the Rocky films too seriously, they should take them for what they are.
Mind you, it totally makes me cringe and piss me off a little bit when Stallone is put into the Hall of Fame, and don't get me started about the Contender, when they're having lunch, him at one end of the table and Sugar Ray at the other , and he's holding court, telling boxing anecdotes, and the boxers are mesmerised!!!
