    Default Wilder- Povetkin..Halfway There?

At the huge risk of quoting the lyrics from a Poodle Rock Song, Wilder's manager leaves it all up in the air and the rest of us living on a prayer

“I’d say currently we are over fifty percent of the way there,” Deas exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I know there is interest from New York and Moscow, but also Las Vegas, Alabama and Mississipi are all being considered to stage the fight.
“We believe the fight will happen sometime between April 30 and June 7 - although May seems an ideal month for us as we would like it to happen the earlier, the better.

The fight MAY happen in one of five locations in April, May, June or Nevermonth

I'd love for Wilder's manager to be sincere about this, but not holding my breath. The first thing he needs to do is forget about Alabama and Mississippi. Wilder-Povetkin in Mississippi?? Nah....

Frankly, if this fight were to come off, I think it would be the turning of the corner for Wilder (should he win impressively) as far as his public perception is concerned. A legitimate victory over a worthy, elite level challenger. Haters would probably immediately denigrate Povetkin, but such is the nature of boxing fandom.

On the other side, if I were Povetkin's camp, I'd be rattling the tree as hard as I could in an effort to force the fight to get made. From what I've seen of Povetkin, I'd give him a pretty good chance against Wilder. Win or lose, it would be competitive and exciting to watch. One thing we can be assured of. Wilder wouldn't turn the fight into the ugly mauling, clinching, leaning stinko of a fight like Wladimir did. Man, I'm glad Wlad's out of the picture!

There's supposed to be a purse bid at the end of the month if they can't make an agreement. If Povetkin's promoter is telling the truth about how much he's going to bid for the fight to be in Moscow Wilder's people are going to have to come up with massive money to keep the fight in America. But they can't really duck the fight if it does end up over there. Can they?

Funny that now Martin is fighting AJ and not Wilder that talk of relinquishing the title has gone. Wilder needs the title to sell his fights.

I think there is doubt in predicting Wilder would win because he has avoided fighting Povetkin. I still think Wilder is better and should win.

Provetkin is a much better boxer than wilder and he has a very good chin

he can also whack a bit himself

theres no doubt wilder has a height and reach advantage and a punchers chance

Povetkin is also more musclebound and that means he is a lot slower now. Think Wilder outpoints him for £20 million in Russia.

Loosely translated: It means "were still trying to stack the deck in our favor. When he agrees to our venue (when the hell did Mississippi or Alabama become the mecca of boxing?), our cut (we want more than the lions share if he wants a shot at our belt), and our timing (we already started training and will get 3 weeks conditioning and nutrition in and then tell povetkin's people in enough time to give them a short camp to condition and strategics, while we work on our game plan for 4 and a half weeks) we'll announce it....

Call me a cynic... but that's how it unfolds much of the time...

To be fair, the strategy for Povetkin is the same and will not change under any circumstances. That is to get in close and work the body of wilder.

Wilder has been a belt holder for all of What? 13 months, and he has avoided Povetkin?

36 yr old Alexander took 2 years to put his vacant-won title against Klitschko. Wasn't he like a mandatory for over a year before taking the fight?

What a shame, that going against Klitshko Alexander was just another fighter.

Against Wilder now he is a good or uh...great boxer now?

    Shows how effective Wlad was.

    Anyway...I got Wilder.

As for Povetkin the good boxer....When good boxers lose...rarely is it because they got outboxed.

Timing is everything in boxing. The longer this takes to make, the worse it looks on Wilder.

To a degree. As most Americans don't know who Povetkin is, bar fight fans.
