Jim Watt announces his retirement

He's had his critics, but I've always found Watt to be a much better commentator than John Rawling, who is repetitive, monotone, boring and biased.

No man should have to endure what he has went through, losing both of his children. He has many detractors but you could never question his love of boxing. He knew that entertainment was part of the job and what the business side entailed in order to be a successful prize fighter. He was not Reg Gutteridge or Harry Carpenter but he was the last of that generation of commentators here in the UK. He could fight a bit too and I could never begrudge an old fighter a chance to make a second career behind the mic, however off target he was. In fact I think I liked him even all the more for it. In a world of bland celebs it was nice to have the familiar voice there, connecting me to my youth. My cat died recently at 18, she wasn't overly affectionate and massacred her fair share of wild life as well as, swiping at your ankles for no good reason sometimes, but I miss her for it.

Will miss Jim's voice as well, the daft old bugger.

It is difficult not be repetitive and entertaining when you are a commentator.

I like John Rawling on Eurosport and box nation.

In his earlier days commentating I found him engaging and insightful on what was likely going on for each fighter technically and in their mind during dramatic moments.
I always recall how he quickly changed his view early in Tyson vs Holyfield I "I've changed my mind already...."

Holding up his hands to be punched by Azumah Nelson and then being on the following program with bandages.

Jim Watt is a legend, i've always liked him on the mic, he's been there and got the t shirt which comes through when he talks.
Ritchie Woodhall would be my choice to fill his boots, never understood why he wasn't snapped up ages ago by Sky Sports.

Is a commentater I always found that he said a lot of what I was thinking, yet still managed to score a fight completely the opposite.

I love his commentating, I question his scorecards sometimes though.

He will be missed and hard to replace.

I almost always liked him actually. After what he's been through hopefully he has relative peace of mind for however long he's got left.

I couldnt stand him. Apart from his awful scorecards I found his lack of research into fighters just downright disrespectful.

I like Jim Watt been there a WBC Champ, so the guy can have a opinion that counts,! remember he can give you a insight how a fighter feels in that ring a nice guy.
Statistics go through the window when your hit on the chin.
He may have been a bit biased to home fighters so WHAT.

Jim has always been a commentator since I was a kid, so I always liked him. And listen to the difference between the more subtle style back in the day, with Reg Gutteridge, to the super hypey modern co-comms.

The trouble with his scoring in recent years was, instead of scoring what he thought he scored what he thought the judges were seeing.
