Hes being employed as Joshua's bodyguard.

The first I heard of him was a couple of years ago Tyson Fury said in an interview that the only heavy he sees out there giving him trouble is Ortiz.

Watching his fights he's powerful for sure but he's not the quickest and can be lazy in fights if the opponent lays on him. Jennings got his attention a few times with shots.

    Maybe he's a bit overhyped?

he could be, he was pretty impressive v the nigerian fellow, I forget his name and jennings in my opinion.. Nigerian light heavyweight isn't up to much though but I do think jennings is fairly good. I don't think we have seen enough of ortiz against good opponents to say for sure how good he is. I guess he beat up tony thompson too but thompson is really old now and well past his best(I always thought thompson was a very good journeyman). Hopefully ortiz really gets a move on as he is 37 now so time is running out for him..

I read takam is up next for him, same fellow who povetkin ko'd in style and gave parker a fairly close fight, I guess this is a good opponent to see how good ortiz can be but I was hoping for better.

oh, fredoom just posted in the heavyweight thread takam is not fighting ortiz next, that could be good.

oh dear I think takam would have been a better choice.... :S... this look to me like a chance for him to beat up a guy that looks the part(aka black and athletic) but it is pretty much harmless. It will look good to casual fans though.. not a very interesting fight tohugh

It doesn't show a sense of urgency at all especially given the state of the division. He could have gone after someone halfway relevant instead of the heavyweight version of Winky Wright

Hearns plan is to have Ortiz as Joshua's protector.

I think Ortiz beats anyone without footwork.

Winky was a legend compared to Scott Hey any fighter who wears a paper bag over his head for his last huge fight is assuming the embarrassing result or just admitting he doesn't belong there in the first place.

In Maliks case he's doing both and covering all the bases. Seems they are just showcasing Ortiz to a brand new audience here and feel good about a 65 yr old Thompson being able to knock him down.

Quick turnaround vs David Allen in 2 weeks! Missed him against Whyte but is Allen up to his neck? Ortiz looked pretty pedestrian vs survival Scott and they're simply trying to establish the "beast" and KO hype.

Allen's self imposed retirement never lasted long then! can't see the point of this myself. Ortiz is supposedly World Level, Allen was a punchbag for Whyte at British Level. and before anybody says "stay busy fight" or "establishing his profile in the UK" or any other such bullshit, fuck that, load of crap. just a bit of Shelf stacking by Matchroom for their Box Offfice Bill .
Allen's a nice guy, but he takes too many punches. He's Mentally unstable by his own admission, has gambling and financial issues , again by his own admission, so he's begging Hearn for the fight.
This is when tragic things happen.

I like Dave Allen, he's very personable, funny and hard as nails. He has a lot of potential but wants everything now.

He only had about 9 am fights. If he didn't have that self destructive personality he could have been going places. If he'd have waited for a couple more fights experience before Whyte he could have had the beating of him. He's just been a sparring partner for so long that he didn't throw enough punches. He had Whyte stumbling back just from pressure in the last round.

Hes been screaming to Hearn for months for a Price fight and as soon as Hearn signed Ortiz he called for that. I like Allen and because of that I'm going to be a bit biased BUT Scotts chin ain't the best and he got through that fight and when he threw the right hand Ortiz was there to be caught. Ortiz and Allen are the same height so he won't dwarf Allen. Dave has acknowledged his mistake and has said a few times he's going to put it on Ortiz and let his hands go. He's been training the last few weeks knowing something will probably be offered last minute for the Dec 10th show so hopefully is at least fit. He's been doing a lot of sparring with Dillian Whyte in his camp.

It will be a better fight than the Scott fight and he has a solid chin and legs like a bull so will be able to pressure Ortiz and if he can keep in his face for a few rounds at 37 or whatever he's supposed to be it will be interesting.
