its also like 80 canadian dollars too :S... bit of a crap ppv, canelo cotto was a worthy ppv card in my opinion but canelos last two outings(including this one) have been pretty weak, the whole card not just the main event... They are really trying to push him as the new star but the buys v khan and I think v smith aren't reflecting the effort hbo are putting in :S

It is stupid and unjustified. In the West they look at you as something to be extracted from and PPV is one example of this. Now, you could of course choose not to watch, but it is just very unfair to expect a fan to come up with 50-60 dollars to watch a mediocre fight on TV. I totally get paying 60 dollars for a game or 3 or 4 good albums, but for a lack luster main event that lasts 45 minutes and is over and done with forever? It's a rip off.

That's what I thought, heard the buys against Khan were a lot less than hoped(around 500K) and that was on Cinco De Mayo. Now a much smaller name opponent with an even worse undercard is still PPV. Does Golden Boy have any kind of big network deals for regular cable? That could be the answer, I don't know. Certainly isn't half of the outfit it was only a few years ago, Canelo is about their only draw now I believe.

Anybody who buys this should be ashamed of themselves. I dislike Canelo, but even if I were his biggest fan, I would not support such a ridiculous PPV event.

You think this is bad, you should see what they make ppv in the UK! Ok, the events don't cost as much , but sometimes they're nothing more than British title fights, and in the case of Bellew v Cleverley, there absolutely nothing at stake and the 2 guys were novices to the division!
It's almost like in Britain, if you shout your mouth off, they make it ppv!

    Yep it's gone mad.

Joshua was ppv way before he shouldve been and yep Bellew Cleverley ppv I assumed was a joke at first.

But people out there must be paying for it and given a lot of us fans dont bother any more then who are these people

It's gone away from an actual "event" that caps off with main match. A full course meal and build up. Say what you want about King but for the most part THOSE were PPVs. They are not events now but instead as we see with tonights ppv simply geared towards an individual spectacle. We rarely even have same card co features that lead to another 'big' fight. I thought that's what they had in mind with Lemeiux and Stevenson on Canelos undercard last out..his future 'official' debut at 160..but no. People don't mind putting out hard earned money but they want something in return. Especially when HBO makes a habit of replaying the main event..basically the only fight on card that matters..in a couple weeks. GBP comes off very desperate and out of touch charging for this pile.

Doesn't really bother me. Most of these PPV matchups I'm not really that interesting even if they were free.

To be honest, the fights on TV lately are by far more worth watching than PPV.

HBO's boxing business shows signs of fatigue - LA Times

mildly interesting article here...I think the best sign that hbo are buggering up their ppvs is that the 3 ppvs this year have received 850,000 buys and the cotto canelo ppv had 950,000 buys on it's own :S.... So i think this proves putting together a good card with a well matched main event like cotto vs alvarez was(and for a world title) is still a winner, rigondeaux fought on the undercard and you had vargas v miura too which was a great fight.. Cotto and canelo are two big names fighting at a fair weight for both of them for a big name world title too(although neither were actually middleweights at the time).. Compare cotto canelo card to the canelo khan card :S Canelo v khan had guys that golovkin beat up as the main support and it was for a world title 5lbs below the actual limit defended against a welterweight who was never really that big in america :S It was just all wrong... Hbo really need to push for some better match making, I think canelo will fight whoever and it is the promoters holding it back but for the long term good of boxing, broadcasters, promoters and fighters they all need to start working together to stop them slipping further behind the ufc.
