At the age of 77 John Hurt has left this mortal stage. A proper actor on stage and screen with such a huge prolific portfolio of real depth and quality. The Elephant Man could easily have veered into trite sentimentality but he reigned it in with great subtley and nuance. Lynch is amazing but he gave that film substance and dynamics. Midnight Express, Alien, 1984 the guy was a part of some real classics and will be sorely missed. Worked on despite cancer till the end.RIP

Absolutely brilliant as an actor. I don't think he ever performed poorly in a movie...he may have been in shitty movies the way all actors are, but the movie was never shitty because of him that's for certain.
