Default Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25

So looks like Wilder has found a fill in opponent who doesn't test dirty and Feb. 25th date is on. The good news on Washington is he's huge at 6'6 roughly 250 lbs. And he's undefeated, on paper. The bad news is he's yet another ex Football-basketball second rater turned boxer. He was caught clean and dropped by Tank Williams and near ran..literally..for his life vs Mansour.

Glad Wilder is back but slowly but surely just feels like his career is on perma pause. Wonder how his hands will hold up after big surgery.

THE fight is on undercard with jr middles Jarrett Hurd vs Tony Harrison going at it! Have a sneaking suspicion Jarrett Hurd is on his way to uuuge things. Kid looks the full package and very entertaining.

Hurd has one of the best short uppercuts in boxing.

Washington isn't horrible, maybe just because he's huge and reasonably athletic, in some ways he for sure is horrible. If it wasn't such a trend for Wilder you could give it a pass due to the injury and layoff thing, but yeah another crap fight for sure.

For a short notice replacement it isn't that bad it certainly could have been worse, I can't really blame wilder for taking on someone like this after the original opponent dropped out again :S... It's a shame the original opponent was a bit crap to start with.

Agreed. At late notice, it's not a bad replacement. Certainly no worse than the original opponent.

AJ has fought worse so can not be too critical.

I actually like this opponent better than wawryk( i don't know how to spell polish names :S) at least washington hasn't been destroyed by povetkin, the polish fellow was blown away in a couple of rounds by povetkin who is the only credible opponent he has faced(I think he beat botha too but botha is 100 years old and well past it).. Washingtons record isn't great either, a points win against an aging eddie chambers( i liked eddie btw) and a draw with mansour isn't the best but at least he hasn't been blown away by someone and he is tall, strong and in good condition. Two undefeated americans fighting for the world title is pretty interesting sounding on paper too.

Default Deontay Wilder VS. Gerald Washington - 25/3/17

A lot of negativity aimed at Wilder for not stepping up and taking bigger fighters (AJ just yesterday said he needs to stop picking fights and step up) but let's give Wilder a break, he had a genuine injury so as far as i'm concerned gets a pass here.

    Wilder KO win for me

Deontay Wilder will look put injuries behind him and take a step toward title unification on Saturday when he defends his WBC world heavyweight title against Gerald Washington at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Considering Wilder is coming back from a serious injury then this is a respectable defence. This will build up nicely to then face AJ later in the year or early next year.

Wilder has also talked a lot about unifying with Parker so if he looks to fight one of those guys next I'll give him a pass here. As long as he doesn't waste time with a Stiverne rematch.
