That's how it's supposed to work. But the question still stands. WHO assigned Judge Cannon to this case??

    "Randomly assigned"

    Ok. I guess it's either

    a. Nobody knows, or

    b. chief clerk of the federal court system there, Angela E. Noble

    Wonderful...

My faith in the American judicial system just keeps growing by leaps and bounds.

The nation's premier ethics lawyers reckon she'll have to recuse herself at some point or get the boot:

    and

I haven't read either of these articles but recognise the names of the lawyers.

Apparently the indictment only shows a small part of the evidence the feds have:

Changing the subject, remember Trump's signature and only major piece of actual passed legislation, the great big corporate tax cut? The idea was that the extra profit being handed to corporations would be handed out by them in wage increases to their employees and they'd also invest a lot more into the economy making everybody wealthier as the money would trickle down. Of course wages actually fell in real terms even before the pandemic and corporations cut jobs, but maybe investment actually increased?

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, sorry for repeating myself. Graphs set me off. Oh also:

And remember the GOP briging the country to the brink of default a couple of weeks ago because we were drowning in debt supposedly and I said they're just after cuts to create the fiscal headroom for new tax cuts? Well here we go, this is just one of them, here's a twitter message from a paid up member of a billionaire funded think tank:

Also would like to point out that the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN reporting in particular and other mainstream outlets was ripped apart by Trump and conservative media from the advent of the raid until the indictment and it turns out they were entirely accurate and the Trump/GOP /MAGA side were uniformly wrong yet not a peep of acknowledgement from them that they got it wrong and the mainstream side not even bothering to proclaim how they got it right. Of course they did, they're people who deal in reality, facts and evidence.

EDIT: When I say uniformly wrong it's not like they looked at the facts and managed to come up with good faith arguments that just happened to be wrong. They were knowingly wrong. They were just throwing endless bullshit out there to try and distract and confuse the whole issue. They're a bunch of bad faith grifting scumbags, a shower of shit.

The only way Trump is going to clear his name of these charges that he is guilty of is by becoming President.

I'm sure you all read they have Trump on tape brandishing a copy of the US battle plans to attack Iran to various people with no security clearances. Well that document still hasn't been recovered. It probably went in a box and was shipped off to Bedminster a few days after he got the subpoena. Very likely it was in one of those boxes that was caught on camera being loaded onto his plane. But who knows eh.

I invite you all to consider the conservative response if Hillary Clinton had stolen America's battle plans for Iran, shown them to a bunch of random people, stored them in various unsecure locations for over a year and now couldn't find them.

He can never clear his name. He's guilty as fuck. Almost certainly one member of the jury will be a huge MAGA person and will refuse to find his guilty hanging the jury and he'll get a mistrial and you'll get the new teflon don headlines but he won't be able to clear his name. Like I already posted, stuff on southern Florida facebook and whatsapp makes Fox News look like the BBC. Florida is notoriously full of nutcases, just google Florida Man, and there'll be a least one person on the jury who thinks the world is run by lizard people or something even crazier. Add on the judge and Trump almost certainly walks.

It's basically hard to go to jail if you're a powerful person. I think they've charged him in Florida so they can charge the January 6th case in DC and most Americans see this as being fair. If they can manage to complete that case before November 2024 he might be willing to take a plea contingent on him dropping out of the election. Maybe that's it.

From somebody who knows about this stuff. The Florida judge is early forties, takes home less than 100k a year and so makes less thana quarter million plus a pension staying in the job. Build a dramatic climax via judging decisions and then manage to get Trump off, easily done, and she becomes a MAGA heroine and the book deal advance alone dwarfs her maximum judge income and gives her twenty years of various grifts on top of that. The feds know all this and still made the case there. They're willing to take a loss in Florida to get the win in DC and be able to dnagle sying in prison over Trump to get him to quit the race. I think.
